Transmission and front diff fluid
Hello all
Looking to do some winter maintenance on the turbo. I have just under 40,000 miles. Would it be a good idea to change the front diff and transaxle fluids? If so what is recommended? On my NA Porsche’s I always used Motul Gear 300 with great results.
Cheers Ted

Thanks for the info and link. Didn't know I had to drain and fill the AWD controller.
Motul makes two Gear 300 75w90, one regular and one for limited slip. I have factory LSD, but I am noticing in the tread that many are just putting in standard 75w90 in their LSD boxes. Wonder which one I should use?

We too recommend the non-LS Gear 300 for your application (2008 911 Turbo):

I did my PDK service recently. Looks like the front diff and awd controller is next for me too.

Three Wheelin'
Has anyone ever used Red Line MTL 75W80 GL-4 Gear Oil and Red Line Synthetic Oil 75W90 GL-5 Gear Oil for this?

My apologies if this was answered in prior threads.... but I'm also looking to swap fluids for the front diff, awd controller, and transaxle. I've purchased the awd controller fluid and was about to pull the trigger on Delvac for the rear and something else for the front. I was going this route due to the Delvac being great for the LSD (I have an '07 w/factory LSD @ 51k miles) but read a few threads about it being tough to shift when cold. Then coming across this thread I see Motul was mentioned and the recommendation was to use the non-LSD formula for the front and rear diff/trans. For my and potentially the benefit of others, can you explain why the non-LSD formula is recommended for manual cars having the LSD? What are the benefits versus the drawbacks of using either? Thanks Nick

Mobil Delvac is not a limited slip specific product either, it is actually part of Mobil's heavy duty trucking product line. It is a pretty average gear oil with very low viscosity index for a synthetic gear oil:
Mobil Delvac 75W90 VI: 140
Motul Gear 300 75W90: 222
With a VI of 222, it is an industry leading number. Our oil will stay within its designed viscosity much more consistently vs oils with lower VI's. It is also ester based giving you a virtually unbreakable oil film and the highest amount of protection under extreme temps.
Hopefully that makes your choice a bit easier. -Nick
