Default What could have done this to my wheel?

While swapping wheel/tire sets today I went to clean this black wheel I just took off and noticed this etching down the inner barrel center. The wheel was just freshly painted 2 years ago and certainly didn't have this marking after the pain job, but I am questioning if it was this last 5-6 mos of use on the car that did it or if I could have been prior. This did not happen on the opposite wheel while on the car. I did one autoX and one track day with PCA in the winter/spring. I'm dumbfounded.

The only thing I did not do was slap the wheel back on just to inspect clearance to the brake caliper. I had already tightened up the other set to the car and only saw this as I was cleaning the black wheels prior to stacking them up.

Thanks,

Tom

You caught a stone between the caliper and the barrel. Then it gouged your wheel.

Pretty common now on the 991 series cars with the BIG yellow PCCB calipers and minimal clearance to the barrel.

Man I think your right! I read about that on some off road vehicles like jeeps etc....

Having 380 rings I'm sure does not help in the rear to match the front. Well Ok I was beginning to really worry something could be wrong with the wheel bearings to that wheel or worse.

Yeah I am also guessing you got a rock caught in there.

Definitely a rock. This was an issue for 997 cars and 991 cars with the PCCB option. I had a groove in both front wheels on my 997 Turbo, and I do on my 991 Turbo S.
