Default Coolant Temperature Sensor Location

Having the crazy coolant and oil temp sensor failure on the gauge cluster. Trying to locate the sensor to no avail. Can anyone guide me where it is on the 997.1 turbo engine? I have done a ton of searches and find pics that are mislabeled and typically the NA engine.

Haven't done this myself, but from my research and my manual:

The sensor is #24. A picture of it in an engine:

I believe this on top of the engine behind the alternator, but I am not 100% sure.

Thanks that is definitely a help. I am away from the car right now but looking at pics online i still am not seeing exactly where it is. I have a general idea, but when was looking this past weekend couldn't identify it. I believe the term is they crammed 50lbs of stuff in a 5lb bucket back there!

Found a better picture. It is definitely behind the alternator.

Thanks guys! I went and pulled the codes tonight and it showed P3081 and P2181. Are those what others were seeing along with the faulty sensor error? This issue has me perplexed as it will come and go sometimes.

For the cost of the sensor at $29, I would replace it before your stuck road side due to a no start issue. I believe those were my codes as well, I just failed to make note of them for future reference...

thats what I am going to do. I have the sensor so might as well bite the bullet and at least try. Weird thing is that lately it has been working fine.

Mine was corroded and caused a fault they said because I wash my car too often...warranty took care of it and while they were in there also got them to install my do88 inlet pipes!

I'm with you on this as well. That's preposterous! Its a sensor that's submerged in liquid, its made of brass and plastic and its nearly impossible to get this area wet unless your washing with the deck lid open ???

So the funny thing is this only started happening after I got my car washed at one of those laser wash things. I doubt it has anything to do with it but funny. Car is at my Indy now to get the sensor replaced. Let’s hope it is all good.
