I was going to open a thread about these B16 Bilstein for our Turbo and found this. I got a set (free) used B16 damptonics but one shock has a broken coilspring. I'm unsure if Bilstein sells separately the coil spring. But my friend who used to have these in his turbo, said they were too stiff speciallty for our bumpy roads and switched back to OEM. My turbo has OEM shocks but with H&R spring and ride comfort is PERFECT for me but I'm scared already to install these B16 and get the car too stiff. I was thinking to make some custom coil springs (mains) like 10-15% less stiff and test them. My main goal is to add air cup lift system and it requires I run certain coilover setup in order to fit this system otherwise I would leave the stock shocks with H&R.

So in your opinion, it's like day and night difference in ride comfort/harsh between OEM and b16?

Thanks

For those of us that want to be able to utilize our TPC DSC, but not spend 8k or more, what options are available to us? I have H&R springs now, but I’m looking for something more aggressive. Used hardware is fine by me too I just rarely see anything for sale here or on 6spd.

Edit: btw, 8k is just me throwing out a number that’s too high for my blood. It wasn’t in regards to Tom’s very informative post.

As I mentioned above, my Bilstein B8s (like new) will be for sale shortly.

Hit me up with details/condition/price and we can go from there. Definitely interested and I’m in no rush!

8k! No way Jose, I could sell the car and use the difference for a newer model. Ain’t spending 8k plus installation costs for what? For pick truck type back breaking ride? No way Jose. It’s ready eddy and sell it already. Will stick with the Bilstein B-16 at 3k, if I do anything. Oh and that DSC box, it ain’t gonna happen. Tired of the smoke and mirrors and trickery gadgets. Best aftermarket mods so far for me, Europipe, La Power gateway(Denison is a POS with the no cd changer issues) and my FVD tune.

Ditto. I can think of a half dozen other mods I'd execute before spending $8K on this one. Special purpose (track) cars, ok, I get it but not an everyday driver.

I have Bilstein B16 Damptronic Coilovers and the DSC Module. Suspension is amazing. It was jumpy and harsh before the DSC. With the DSC module and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires the suspension is wonderful, compliant, confortable and stable.

I will be posting my setup when it FINALLY gets installed. I had to deal with electrical gremlins before anything else and that slowed my schedule some what. I paid ~1500 for the coilover set I wanted and an additional 4k for new springs and a custom revalve of all 4 dampers. The end result is less than 50% critical damping for my final setup which is not back breaking. So for near the cost of the tracktive you can have a suspension which performs far better than OE and is more comfortable. Tires and suspension are the 2 best mods you can do to ANY car to see a performance gain. The DSC box is a good option for people whom want to stay OE but it is not going to be super wonderful compared to aftermarket options. It will make the OE suspension more able to deliver comfort. Beyond that mods are a per user taste...

I'd expect that calling the Tractive back breaking without having tried them would be a bit silly.

Sounds like you've developed a decent setup customising B16's - if I was spending 75% of the cost of Tractive I'd stretch to get them - the benefit of the much more responsive shock outweighs any slight (if at all) difference in comfort, and I'd expect you can just dial in a softer setup with the software either way (as you could on the B16's).

I just want a good shock for street use without breaking the bank. I already have the DSC and lowering springs but my OEM shocks are getting tired. Where can I finally find a set of B-8's?

Genuine question - how do you know they're getting tired? Mine have done over 150k kms now, no idea how to tell if they should be serviced or replaced.
