Purchase repair advice Perth Australia
Advice on repair costs
Im looking for a clean great condition 997.1tt manual. I thought I found one, by the way the owner described the car. I’m located 5 hours by plane away from the car I found so I had to depend on the sellers description before I hired Porsche to do a prepurchase inspection.
$1000 later Porsche informs me that the car is in a fairly rough condition with repairs over $20000.
It’s disappointing because the seller knew all about the cars condition as Porsche had informed him two months earlier in its service but he chose to not tell me.
I’d normally walk away at this point but the owner has now come back and said he wants me to make an offer because he must sell it urgently.
So here I am rethinking and asking for your help and advice on repairs
The car has had a tune but he won’t tell me by whom and has Sports exhaust and 200 cell cats.
Should I continue walking away?
Or should I make an offer?
Can the front diff be rebuilt? Cost?
What do you think all the repairs will cost?
Porsche has put over $20000 on the mechanical repairs only (excluding cosmetic repairs) without consideration to the motor for overrevs.
Here are the findings from Porsche
Fire away!!
Thanks for reading.

Here are the findings from Porsche
- Sunroof only tilts with a notable crack and doesn’t slide open $$??
- Misaligned instrument dials
- Broken passenger seat switch
- Paint spilled in glove box
- Worn seat, gear **** and ignition
- Severe paint chips to front bar bonnet and lights
- Wheels scratched and clear coat peeling
- Front tyres severely worn on inside
- Rear tyres 20% left
- Front pads less than 5% left
- Front Differential oil leaks(possible rebuild but Porsche advise a replacement)
- Rear Spoiler rams leaking
- Front suspension failure
- Cv joints failure
- And a very alarming overrevs report
- The mechanics close to home have advised me to stay away from the car for this alone. Mainly due to resale value, even if the car is ok. Which they believe 100% it is not.
Fire away!!

Sweet baby jesus, don't buy that car LOL. I don't even think you mentioned a price? Doesn't matter. Do not buy it. The front diff, by my understanding, cannot be rebuilt - replacement only. Maybe there are some talented people with a machine shop that could rebuild it, but I do not believe the internal parts readily available from Porsche or aftermarket - hence the machine shop requirement.
That over rev report is actually the least worst thing out of that entire mess haha. Seriously, don't buy that car.

The seller has not been honest to begin with and now he's pressuring you to make an offer on this poor example. I would tell him to take a walk and pass on this car... like others have already posted above me there is too much work that needs to be done to this car and many headaches to be had in the process. It is just not worth it. If it takes you longer to finally get that right 997tt then wait. In the end it will be worth it to pass on this very poor example to find one that is properly sorted and will provide you with many trouble-free miles of fun! Good luck on your decision but I really hope you will pass on this....

Walk, no wait, run away from this. The owner shows no care in ownership either in how he represented the car nor how he drove it, or more to the point, how he did not maintain it.
Like others, the overrev report is the best part of this car.
