Default Buying Used 2011 997 Turbo S

Hi all,

I'm new to the forums and the 997 model. I'm currently looking at a 2011 997 turbo S with PDK and it has ~19k miles. I have researched into this a bit and from factory the 997.2 seems to have fixed a good amount of issues from 997.1. The car is at a very low price therefore I'm a bit cautious as to what kind of issues it may have. I have friend with lifts and repairing cars so if there are minor issues I wouldn't mind fixing it myself. I will probably have a PPI for the car before I purchase it anyways.

If you guys could provide a list of things that I should look out for that would much appreciated.

Thanks

I have a 2011 turbos with 36,000 miles with zero problems. Make sure it has been properly maintained, e.g., spark plugs, brake fluid, cabin filter, oil etc. Google the maintenance schedule or download factory maintenance book for detailed list of items. I would also do ppi. Good luck

I purchased my 2011 TTS with 18K miles in March. I had a ppi performed prior to purchase which caught a couple of items. It also missed a few things as well.

The basics: tires, wheels suspension, plugs, fluids etc. For me they missed the ac compressor. The ac works but makes a terrible noise in neutral and at low speeds. I'm guessing since it works they passed it? I wish they would have made a note of it. Other than that I haven't had any issues.

Cannot agree more with the points above. Cover the basics - spark plugs, oil, etc. Also, make sure you get a good PPI done from one the recommended shops. Here's a list that can help you with it. Porsche PPI Locator

Almost always these cars are priced optimistically so a car being offered at a low price, below market, is cause for concern.

If the car has "minor" issues why doesn't the seller take care of these beforehand? This is like putting a car on the market needing a good washing/detailing and the cabin vacuumed.

My thinking is the low price is intended for a quick sale the seller thinking he's getting a "bargain" and not doing a thorough used car check out and ending up getting a car with more than minor issues wrong with it.

With used cars it is buyer beware. You have to view any car with a reasonable degree of suspicion but with a car priced below market...

Beware of flood cars hitting the market as well, no such thing as a cheap turbo, either pay up now or later.

Did you actually write "very low price" in the same sentence as a 19,000 mile 997 Turbo S? Um, that's a problem. There's really no such a thing, unless your idea of a very low price is different than ours.

A very low price is like... $77k for this 19k mi car. At $77k for 2011 19k mi Turbo S, there is a BIG PROBLEM with the car somewhere, somehow. Something would be amiss. Salvage title, bad carfax, previous accident, something.

If a very low price to you is $95500, then just get it and enjoy! If it checks out and it's got this very low price, you must RUN TO THIS DEALER at 8am tomorrow and beat a path to the used car manager to get it. FAST.

You will be SO HAPPY you did.

I drove a 2013 997.2TT PDK a few days ago... WOW!!
Made me want it Bad!!!

It is priced at $109,900 btw... $105k would be a good deal. They only made 157 of the 2013's.

I totally agree and understand your point. Ultimately this is a going to be a project car for me, so I will be working on it myself. I don't mind having issues to fix as long as its not a 'Big' issue. I'll have a PPI done before I purchase it anyways. Thanks for all the advice

Get the car checked out thoroughly in either case. The only thing worse than paying way below market for a car you later discover has warts, is paying an at-market price for a car with the same issues. Be smart.

There are two distinct possibilities:

- The dealership you're buying this car from has no clue what they have.

- There is something bad wrong with the car.

There is one other possibility I'd like to mention

- We are all part of your dream of finding the deal of a century. If this indeed is your dream, can I own a 918? No, two 918s.

I do own a 2012 TTS and I do indeed love the car.
Best'

What JB said and all the other posts say, beware! My 2011 TTS "deal of the century" turned into a $10K nightmare for Carmax. I'm glad I found all my problems very early or else I would be living in the poor house. Parts alone are very expensive and forget about labor. The PPI will find problems with the big things but it's the little things they miss that add up. Tread lighly-
