Default Battery Life Question

I just left my 997.2 RS for a bit over a week and went to start it, the central locking didn't work and so I used the key to open the door and it fired up straight away.

Is the central locking something the car shuts down when the battery is getting low or was I just not pressing the button hard enough? Not sure how old the battery is, only had the car for a few weeks now...

Hi, if I am not wrong according to the manual the immobiliser on the key goes into 'sleep' mode if you have not used it after a week. In some cases, you will need to sync the key with the immobiliser again.

It powers down to save the battery. Just insert the key in the lock and turn it. Then the button open will work just fine

I would recommend getting a trickle charger and always trickle charge your battery.
And, always lock your car in the garage as it places all the electonics in "sleep" mode and lowers current draw/battery drain.

Sounds like good info about the immobilizer. Don't remember hearing about it before.

Battery in my car was replaced just before I bought it in 2010. About 4 years later, the battery seemed a bit weak turning the engine over one day. So, I drove to the battery store with my 10mm wrench for the terminals. Also took a socket and extension with a ratchet for the tie-down. Changed it out in about 5 minutes in the parking lot. All has been good since.

Have never used a charger of any type during 7 years. Probably because I don't go very long between "attitude adjustment" drives. Maybe 3 or 4 days max.
