Default Maintenance

Guys, when it comes to changing fluids and other maintenance, do you follow what the computer tells you or do it more frequently. I've been too busy and haven't driven my gt3rs much the last two years. The computer says nothing but I wonder if I should still change oil, etc. Thanks!

Personally I would change oil annually no matter what. Other fluids less often if not driving

As I recall, the maintenance schedules are time OR mileage based so you should reference what the maintenance schedule says. I don't wait for it to tell me something, I proactively service it based on the schedule.

Oil annually, brake fluid bi-annually, spark plugs every 4 years. This is if you are not tracking. Gearbox oil is a much longer interval although I'd probably do that every 2 years at a minimum (if not tracking) given it's cheap.

It does seem like a waste to change the oil in a year when you run the car less than 3000 miles(in my case)
But, I once again got the Napa sale, mobil 5W-50 @$5.79/qt so I'll be changing it this week-

I don't meant to be rude, but you own a Porsche, and more than that, a GT Porsche and your concerned about the waste associated with changing your oil once per year?

You guys need to follow TIME or MILES or TRACK maintenance schedules. The first 2 are published in the user manual.

Oil gets ACIDIC. Change it. Don't be cheap.

I change my oil every year, when I first got my car I changed it after a 1400 mile drive from Houston since I decided to switch from 0W-40 to 5W-50. It was a long drive, I often cruised at 140mph for long periods on the turnpike late at night
So that oil change was pretty much unnecessary, 2 days/1400 miles

But jet engines no longer do oil changes(since the last 10 years or so with their new synthetics) for the life of the engine-probably not a good comparison, and even piston aircraft oil wouldn't be a good comparison either-but it's an interesting read-the viscosities, completely different from auto oils(additives, extreme conditions, etc). And they do not run synthetic oil.

My knowledge of aviation mechanics is next to nothing but I did spend some time in the cockpit as a "co-pilot" over the course of a couple months about 10 years ago. My understanding is that jet engines are far far simpler than IC engines and contain far less moving parts. Jet engines also run cleaner than IC engines found in cars due to a much higher quality fuel. I did not know they don't do oil changes though, that is interesting.

+1 for oil annually or every 3k miles, whichever occurs 1st, brake fluid every 2 years and spark plugs every 4 years.
I do, however, change the turn signal fluid every 27 days, using only the finest synthetic formula.

Got my 5W-50 at Napa yesterday, $5.79/qt. My Audi S3 takes a different viscosity/VW spec so I use 0W-40, also on sale.

Here's an oil tool to compare oil specs, requirements and options for your vehicle:

Here's an article comparing aircraft engine oil and modern automotive oil:
