I am looking to get a little more mid-range power out of my 997.1 GT3. The car has BBi side-bypass pipes with stock center exhaust and LWFW.

Would upgrading the headers with perhaps 200 cel cats be a worthwhile improvement that you can actually feel? If so, any brand of headers to seek out, and stay away from? I've seen a lot of mentions of products from Fabspeed, AWE.. but don't know anything about them. Would I need to change anything else, like engine mapping?

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!

Most deal with exhaust for two reasons; reduce weight and improve exhaust note. Appears you have already done both. I bet your GT3 sounds incredible.

I don't think you're going to be happy with performance results after spending lots of money on headers and cats. You're not going to feel it.

You might need to get a tune, the 200 cell cats could cause a CEL, but you can try using an O2 extender first to see if that works.

For me, I feel most of the difference on the top end, at various high speed tracks I would see a 3-5 MPH increase on the end of a long straight.

I was looking into sport headers as well. Not all are CARB approved for california, and there are multiple reports of people not passing inspections, and some passing as well.

I know that the Fabspeed are NOT Cali compliant, so some have done emissions first......

honest opinion, if you want more mid-range torque, get a 3.8RS or a 4.0 :-)
I don't think the $ spent on headers + tune will give you much where you want it
They DO add HP, but tends to be most felt over about 5500 RPM to redline

And none of the options are compliant with CA CARB

One option that could help with the butt dyno but has other implications would be the 3.8RS final drive gearing.

the side bypass exhaust produces awesome sound as it is (get compliments on it from the local PD all day long). I'm planning on installing stock cats to pass emissions first, but then...

The sound is already there, and if it's an added bonus, I'm all about it.. but I wanted a little more kick when not racing from 5500 to redline.

when i went with headers, side delete, center delete style exhaust. it was f'n loud but i did notice a seat of the pants power improvement in the mid range above 3K onwards. it was too darn loud so it's been sitting on the shelf until i figure out other methods.

So you would get a power increase, but likely not worth the $. the weight savings and heat savings for me to remove the side mufflers was big.

I had a set made by TopSpeed Motorsports here in Atlanta that deleted the side mufflers and incorporated the 200 cell high flow cats. They also installed the Cobb Accessport and tuned the car on their dyno when it was done. I saw about 17WHP increase, which was a bit less than expected. However, they produced a significant increase in mid range torque - more in the 30+ range to the wheels. So I can say the difference was significant on my car, and no question the extra punch is felt. I was recently able to run a 1/2 mile sprint and my car ran numbers very close to new RS's, so I would say its real. (151mph).
