I agree all good things to look for.

Re brake paint. I fitted brand new OEM callipers recently. And then they went dark (discoloured) in a single 20min session at Bathurst. Now I know it was being tracked as a car, but really I wouldn't rule the car out as a buy because its brakes got used like the Porsche gods designed them to be. :-)

basics?
1. maintenance records / services current
2. what mooty said: coolant lines addressed (if not, take into price consideration), check calipers, hips, nose for excessive wear
3. Pull a DME report for over-revs
4. drive it, it should be rattly, loud, and sort of obnoxious, cold blooded a little hard to shift when cold, when warmed up, much smoother, but louder and more rattly. if the car is quiet and smooth like a carrera something is wrong. really.
5. Overall condition interior/exterior

#4 is a classic. When I got my 997.1GT3 a couple years ago I sold my 986S to my brother-in-law. This fall he wanted to use my lift so he could do some maintenance on it, and he asked me to drive it up onto the lift. I fired it up and geez it felt like a Town Car! It was velvety smooth, the clutch and steering so light... I hated it! LOL I forgot how big / perceivable the 'gap' was between the regular and GT p-cars even with just starting it up an moving it around.

I would add check what chassie the car is sitting on.
Many have had mods to the chassie.
It might be good, it might be bad, depends on what you are looking for.

what everyone said - basic common sense on buying used cars- get a ppi from a reputable place. if the car burns a bit of oil with some blue smoke on startup that's normal, don't panic, and it'll go away. if the clutch is stiff, the shifter stiff, and you are feeling too much through the steering wheel....normal
