tire recommendations for gen 1gt3rs
In looking for street tires for the gen1 GT3RS, I see that the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 is "not available."
It it a size issue? Anyone know why?
-- Any alternative recommendations?
Tire wear and wet performance is not factor in this question.
Thanks in advance for any replies!

The RE11 successor, the RE71R are damn good as well. Alittle more road noise over the MPSS but on track, I'm maybe 2-3seconds off the pace from my R-comp brethren

MPSS are what I use on street on the 19" OEM wheels. Good tires. Used as rain tires too at the track before. Can't speak too much to dry track use but sure they aren't that great compared to what i usually run (NT01)

+1 for Michelin Pilot Super Sport MPSS
Pilot Sport 4 are replacing the MPSS this year. I'm holding out for those. Hopefully in the States by Mid Year..

Many thanks for all the replies!

I have been looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2
For some reason, stock sizes for the PSC2 997.1 GT3RS are difficult to find, except here:
https://www.carid.com/michelin-tires...ld_id=79446986
((- note that the above reference is for a 315 rear, not the oe 305 ))
Also, I have heard one review that the PSC2 does not get warm enough when street driven, so I would be grateful for any opinions in that regard for the PSC2.
- Any opinions on running a 245/30/19 instead of the stock 235/35/19 with the oe 305/30/19 on the rear (((for calming low-to-mid speed understeer)))
Also, any opinions as to high speed oversteer with a 305/245 setup?
Not sure about plus sizing rear + front by +10 since it would seem that could get oversteer back to oe; - albeit at higher grip levels.
Here is a size comparison for the 235 -> 245 front change I am looking at:
BTW, Tire comparisons can be easily done here:
https://tiresize.com/calculator/
If there are divergent opinions on the 315 rear for this car, has anyone tried a 315 on the rear (oe rim) and what did you put on the front (again, oe rim)?
ditto 305/245 opinions that diverge from mine.
- Given the oe rims, I am assuming the plus size on either end will most likely be +10 only (if any; - dependent on fender clearance).
As a side note, Tire Rack says oe sizes for the 997.1 GT3RS are "not available" for this car.
Many thanks again & HNY!!!

Thanks for that info.
This car was delivered to me in 07 with Pirelli P Zeros which I did not really like.
I have PSS on the car now (not PSS 2) and would like to find a tire with more road feel.
Using up the PSC2's on the street would not be a concern, but if the tire does not enter its true performance range on the street, that would.
So, having said that, are you discouraging the cup 2 for wear reasons?
Thanks again in advance.
..Any information on the SS 4 greatly appreciated too..

Call Damon at Tire Rack. Many times when they show "out of stock" on Cup2's, they actually have a couple of sets squirreled away. Same happened recently with stock on tires for my RS. Worth a shot.
If you do 90% street driving, the MPSS are IMHO the best tires out there. Wear forever; grip like crazy; awesome in the wet. For maintaining the feel of the car as delivered from the factory (likely with MPSC1's), the MPSC2's are fantastic. Amazing grip, useable in the wet, incredible life on the street for what they are. Just a matter of what you want in a tire.

Tire rack is showing these in stock, ink are same sizes as your oem. I've driven mpss and mpsc2 on the street. Mpsc2 better and my preferred option. However in cold weather mpss better traction. Mpss better as well in wet. For the track mpsc2 much better imo (quicker, better response, etc), but mpss may last longer.

MPSS have good feel on track for a street tyre (sidewall stiffness is impressive, not near the level of an r compund) but they squeel like a stuck pig and get chewed up if driven hard. Noisy AF on the drive home and for many miles after as a result. If you want to try the track once and have MPSS go for it. Anymore than that, go with either Cup 2 or better still an r compound.
