I don't use Facebook anymore either. Ha!

But why would they not create their own membership registry? Do they get money back from Facebook/Twitter for user data?

Because FB's reg API is free and FB gets the behavioral/interest data for free for their own native targeting on FB.

Typically this makes perfect sense. New users are more likely to join due to easier access.

But why would Amazon give this up? Or at least have an Amazon account log-in too?

Because Amazon doesn't own it. The trio, Andy Wilman, Fox and a couple of PE firms do.
