Default Porsche Eats Humble Pie, Reintroduces the Mezger Engine at the 2016 Paris Auto Show

Stuttgart, September 26, 2016. In a complete 180º turn Porsche AG has revived the iconic, Le Mans winning Mezger flat six engine and is re-introducing it in a brand new, physically smaller version of the 911. The car will have a Getrag-based 6-speed close ratio manual transmission and a lightweight flywheel. Electric and rear wheel steering from current so-called “GT” cars have been removed. Wheelbase has been shortened as well. Standard interior equipment consists of a steering wheel, gear lever, 3 pedals, and bucket seats. Roll bar is optional.

The new model will be introduced at the 2016 Paris Auto Show this week and will be priced under USD $100,000. The car will be available only in PTS colors to be specified by the buyer at the time of ordering the vehicle. 918 buyers will not be eligible to purchase the car until late 2018 ensuring that all true enthusiasts who want to buy one of these cars can get their hands on it. Dealers who are found to be guilty of price gouging will have their contracts with PAG and PCNA terminated immediately.

Senior PAG officials were overheard saying that the reason this car was built was to correct a gravely error. They admitted that they designed the 991 so-called “GT” cars to be too user friendly. The unintended consequence was that all kinds of unwanted elements with no history or understanding of the Porsche brand bought those vehicles and now mainly drive them only to lame Cars & Coffee meets while wondering whether the car has appreciated in value. It has been ensured that the new car will be rather difficult to drive and current so-called “GT” customers will be too scared to buy and drive it… And no, it won’t be because the engine catches fire.

The new car has an internal name 997R. When asked why that particular moniker, a PAG spokeswoman was rather laconic and only said: “Why mess with perfection?"

Very few of these cars have been seen in testing. There are only several spy shots of the car in the wild, but it’s expected that this is what the new 997R will look like:

Amen brother. These were the lines that had me spitting up coffee all over my iPad. Thanks for the laugh Ilko. Gonna have some hurty feelings and panties in a knot on another forum though....
