Default 997.2 GT3 More stable with SC off??

At Limerock yesterday. I've recently started braking later at the end of no name and main straight. Noticed the car was very "squirrly" under hard braking at end of straights just before turn in. Rear end felt really loose. I started thinking I needed the guard LSD upgrade. Mechanic suggested try SC (Stability Control) off.

I was very pleasantly surprised how much better the car felt with SC off. Hard braking was much more linear and even oversteer/ sliding was much more predictable and controllable.

Surprising that SC off made a difference in straight line braking. I definitely prefer SC off on track now.

Have other's experienced similar behavior with SC?

Yes, I found that SC off in my 997.2 GT3 and RS was way better, more stable, and more controllable. On the newer 991 and 981 I leave it on and it never really interferes in track. I did not find that in the 997.

+1

The rear brakes are what is used during ABS or TCS wheelspin to modulate yaw. For me this gives a weird sensation I don't like.

Raw dog only TCS OFF SC OFF

I frequently get the same rear end wiggle at the end of the main straight of LRP under hard braking as I enter Big Bend. (I was also there at the Metro NY event on July 28). This is on my 997.1 GT3, which doesn't have SC. It does have TC. I've always thought there is some pavement irregularity there that causes this. I don't experience it on No Name, however.

Your experience leads me to wonder whether leaving TC on causes this behavior.

In the high speed baking zones where I sometimes get rear end wiggle (haha) I have found that if I apply the brakes lighter for a moment before full on hard it doesn't wiggle.

I have a 997.1 so as Jake said I don't have SC.

Maybe try adjusting your braking before you turn off SC.

SC off solved the "wiggle" issue. Left TC on. TC really only intervened over the crest on the up hill section.

SC is very intrusive and really made me fell less confident in the cars stability.

SC off made the car more predictable.

I'll remember that if I ever get a 997.2. Thanks.

i forget the exact reason, but somebody else can chime in. the rear end wiggle after hard braking can also be caused by suspension geometry and is normal

LSD makes the car more stable under braking. Stock LSD is a bit chocolate. Rebuild with cup plates.

And Yes! All the nanny stuff off on track. It's way to active and will kill your rear brakes.

TC cuts out engine, not a rear brake thing. Engine cuts in and out kind of like ABS pulsing.

Some more opinions about preffered settings (TC, SC, PASM)?

on the track? i always suggest driving with all the nannies on. as you start triggering their activation, back it down and analyze whether you were the cause and the nannies saved your ***, or you were indeed in control. once you become more confident, turn the settings off and back your pace down. work your pace back up.
