Default Oil for both cars

I've been researching motor oils I can use for both my GT3 and Audi S3-
So I can order in bulk, and avoid multiple orders, etc.
I've been using the Mobil 5W-50 on the GT3, and the new S3 got a free first oil change with whatever the dealer uses.
So the new Mobil list came out, and 0W-40 FS is a new version of the 0W-40, and still Porsche approved. Could be used on both cars, but for hot FL weather I prefer the 5W-50.
The 5W-50 viscosity is not in the Audi VW list, but meets VW 505.00 approval otherwise as listed on Mobil's page dated Feb 2016:

https://mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us...guide-2016.pdf

Other choices would be Liquid Molly 5W-40, Motul 8100, Pentosin 5W-40 and others.
Easiest one to find is the 0W-40 Mobil, half the price because it's always on sale at Walmart, as seen on countless threads on the net.

So my main question is could it be the Audi and VW lists don't include Mobil 5W-50 because it's not as common, or does Audi VW absolutely not recommend that viscosity(even though Porsche does, even for their turbo engines?)

Suggestions appreciated

Do not use an oil viscosity that isn't recommended. Stick with 5W50 (or whatever you prefer) for your Porsche and the appropriate oil for the Audi. Don't skimp here.

Strange thing is that the new Mobil chart shows 5W-40 as a diesel oil only, where many other brands make a suitable 5W-40
I'll probably get 0W-40 for the Audi-you really can't beat the price and availability-the walmart deal is pretty much half price, but requires a trip to walmart :roll eyes:

I've ordered the 5W-50 online at around $8, which is decent considering 10 quarts for the GT3-
Still wondering if the fact that the Mobil 5W-50 is rare in the US, it didn't make the VW/Audi list even though it's listed as 505.00 VW approved-

good question because i was considering this as well. I use 10W60 on the S-engined BMW car but have to use 0-40 EURO spec for the GT3. I also consider using the car oils in my motorcycles as well which I know work as long as the bottle doesn't say energy conserving...anywho - in the end i just use the speicifc oils for each vehicle.

Well I was driving near Walmart so I ended up getting the 0W-40. About $22 for the 5 qt, plus $7 for the extra bottle. Around $33 w/ tax, so it's quite a bit cheaper and for the S3 the 0W-40 is a versatile oil.
I also have 2 motorcycles, a two stroke which I run Klotz castor bean oil, which isn't cheap-so the oil madness really adds up

Also, Walmart has Castrol 0W-40, which is apparently a new oil, or at least I hadn't heard of. Porsche A40 and VW/Audi approved, so for those who like Castrol maybe it's a choice, $22/5qt

I think I'll continue using 5W-50 on the GT3

Does anyone run Total? I saw many ads at Le Mans race, and other races. I heard it is top of line French made oil for high performance cars, I think cost reflects claimed quality.
