Default 997.1 GT3 flares

Hi,

I am looking to add a little bit of flavor to my 2007 GT3 and i was thinking about adding a set of the 2010RS flares or a set of the 2010 Cup Flares. I have done a lot of research and i can see that it does not fit perfectly on the 997.1 cars, as they do not reach the absolute bottom of the bumper, but what i am most interested is actual fitment and options for fitment.

Can the Cup flares be added without cutting the fenders and how much do they extend past the edge of the flare?

I will be installing a set of BBS LM-R that i just refinished and i am also concerned about fitment because the offset is really hight. On a side note, does anyone want to trade me for a set of BBS E88?

I have a 2007 GT3 that I went full PMNA 997.2 body work on amongst a ton of other things as well.

To run the PMNA cup flares, there are 2 choices. You either trim your existing fender and mount the flare to it, or have the lip on the flare ground down so u can just attach it to your existing fender without having to cut the fender. Obv the differences in doing this would be the amount of clearance you have.

Or the third choice is get the cup fenders as well, then you have your stock fenders preserved.

Part numbers for the flares. Best place to get them from is Rhonda at FVD. If you go this route tell her I sent you.

Part numbers:

- 997 5.05 366 91G2X Wheel Cover Front Right

- 997 5.05 365 91G2X Wheel Cover Front Left

- 997 503 401 91G2X - Fender flare left 997 GT3 Cup 10-
- 997 503 402 91G2X - Fender flare right 997 GT3 Cup 10-

All this comes out to $640

If you wanted to go with Cup Fenders as well, here are the part numbers and costs from FVD

997 503 931 96 Fender Left 997 GT3 Cup 10-997$494.93
997 503 932 96 Fender Right 997 GT3 Cup 10-99750393296$531.53

One other thing to note , the cup fenders are made specifically for the cup extensions, as the opening is higher up than stock 997 fenders to allow for more wheel/tire clearance. If you cut your stock fenders Instead, you can
trim the fender liner back.
Swapping cup car fenders on is
straight forward. Fenders, extensions, wheel
liners.

wheel liners cup L :
997.504.123.94, 997.504.203.94
R: 997.504.124.94, 997.504.204.94

Attached is a pic of my car with just the
cup fender on before attaching the flares, you can see the opening is much greater around the wheel.

BMWTYe,

Your car inspired me to get the cup flares. I was at David's shop getting my LM-Rs painted and he showed me your car. I love all the upgrades!

I just finished my wheels so I wanted a nice set of flares. I'm leaning toward the 2010 gt3 RS flares to keep it subtle. Unless someone wants to trade for some Silver LMRs

With .2RS flares you cant use wider wheels like you can with cup flares. Cup fenders aren't really expensive for a Porsche part and from time to time you can buy them used.

How much clearance does the cup fenders add when not cutting the factory flares and grinding the inner lip of the flare??

Depends on your ride height and camber. Uncut stock fenders with cup flares mainly become an aesthetic thing more than a functional thing. It will look 4x4 and u won't be able to set the correct ride height. So u either stay 4x4 and run a little bit wider up front, or you cut it and do it right with a wider wheel and front tire.

However, if you use cup fenders and flares, to get the right ride height you are gonna need to change the suspension if you want to maximize performance. If you are just cars and coffeeing it then u can crank the stock coilovers down but the ride will be compromised.

I'm running a 9.5 front wheel with 265 tire and I have room to spare. 285 tire fits, but chose to not run that, as that much front tire is gonna effect straight line speed. I'm running JRZ rs pro Double adjustables for coilovers, and when u saw my car it was actually set a bit higher ride height wise as I didn't want the body shop having issues moving the car around.

After I picked it up from David I put the clubsport roll bar in and reset my ride heights.

Are you talking just swapping coilovers or are cup uprights necessary as well? I'm slowly picking up everything necessary for cup fenders and flares.

Cup uprights are not necessary. You just need a good coilover that can set lower without compromising the shock travel, or riding on bump stops.

The issue with going with cup uprights is the rears use a different style mounting point for the coilovers, as well as cup coilovers are shorter in overall height. There also are no provisions for the parking brake or a couple sensors. So while you can make all this work, it's not worth it. By the time you did all of that you would come out ahead buying a set of good coilovers.

Thank you so much for the info. I am doing this conversion as we speak to my 997.2. I did have a question, ypu mentioned if I'm cutting my stock fenders which I am I can trim the fender liners back. wouldn't trI ming the stock fenders to accomidate for the cup flares be the same thing as using the cup fenders? They would both be at a higher point than oem correct? So wouldn't that warrant using cup fender liners as well?
Now if someone on is trimming the flares to just use them as stick ons I can see they can use the same fender liners since their oem fenders are untouched. Can you please clearly that. Thank you so much in advance for the help and guidance.
