Default 997.1 vs 997.2 GT3 RS Price Appreciation

So I have been debating getting a 07/08 GT3 RS for the garage. I am also tempted by the 997.2 GT3 RS (not the 4.0 - everyone wants to much for these now). As I shop around the delta between prices on the two for good examples is not that different - maybe $25-$30K max. The 997.1s with under 10K miles are $175K-$200K and the 997.2s low miles are $220-$230K. So which has the better chance to at least stay flat or maybe increase?

My frame of thought: I am lucky enough to have gotten my 2009 GT2 25% or so below its sticker and to date that has paid off. I never worried about buying that car as to it holding its value nevertheless some of the prices I am seeing these trade at today. I am thinking though the 997.1s are 25%-30% above sticker today and there are more of them. I might actually worry we are in the bubble now and should wait and prices might go down. I am ok with car holding its value - I like to drive them a bit and don't care so much about quick appreciation as I am in just not losing money on these cars. Of the cars I have the only depreciating asset is my Mercedes and slowly the Bentley.

Any thoughts? TIA.

You are right 997.1 and .2 have appreciated. It will probably keep on increasing unless they announce the new gt3 will be 4.0 and manual like the R. Now between .1 and .2 apple to apple which means low mileage and not abused again you are right. There is a $20k to $30k difference.
So it all comes down to your preference between a .1 and .2 . Have you driven both back to back? I personally like the .1 more but to have both in the stable is not a bad choice too

Both would be killer! I tend to like the 3.6L. I think they are equally as rare? I worry about the cam issues on the 3.8. Welding the coolant lines on the 997.1 is not expensive.

Oh you made a great point on collectability/appreciation - I don't see the 911R as a positive for these - especially for the 4.0 RS. On my GT2 I would be really shocked when and if they do a 991 GT or GT2 RS with a manual - I just don't see it. The manual part of the equation of these cars I feel is key to holding its value. Sadly some day they may all be gone.

On a side note my son who is 15 with his drivers permit wants a stick. Score. I did something right.

I think they converge over time and very little difference. That convergence happened faster than I anticipated - as when I bought mine 3 years ago the difference was greater.

Rare? Yeah, they are all pretty rare. Even here in socal.

All 997 gt3s in my opinion should have had an rs badge. They are all that good.

That said, not all rs's are an rs. Is an rsa an rs? I don't think so.

The .1 rs is more of a styling package. Especially for those who want skittles in their garage and which explains why the green and orange ones trade at a premium.

The .2 rs has further content and hp over the standard car. I would expect this one to get closer to 4.0 territory over time.

Didn't they already say that the next GT3 would get manual? Dunno how accurate this is, but, apparently the GT3 will be manual but the RS still won't be?

Wellp, either way, it won't be a real Mezger. And of course, the ultimate winners in all of this is anyone with something air-cooled.

I agree; .2 RS is a much better place to park the cash vs. .1 RS, as the .2 RS delivers greater content and the price delta is (somewhat) reasonable.

I think the .2 does everything better than the .1

Buy one, i don't think you will regret it.

I would guess production numbers play a big role in future longterm values. Look at .1 vs .2 rs U.S.numbers and use as a future predictor

The recent issue of Total 911 had a comparison of 991 RS vs 997.2 RS, RS 4.0, and 997.1 RS. It's a good read.

997.2 GT3 RS is 1500 WW
997.1 GT3 RS is 1106 WW

So fewer 997.1 which lead me that way and I like that gen 997.

That was a bit of my thinking. I know the .2 was a larger difference. Perhaps a 997.1 GT3 is a great buy?

u are ALL looking at this wrong.

buy any one of them
drive drive drive and drive some more.
then it's got 100k miles.
at that point, there is no resale value so just dont worry about it.
but in the interim, when all your RS friends are waxing the girl and "thinking" how she would scream and have wet dreams, u are the the one whose really riding her hard and banging her up. if you are concerned with losing $100k on that car, you can't afford this car. buy something else.

if she's mine, i will bang her the way i want.

I think it speaks more to .2 RS being a good buy at 190-230 if you're considering each model's relative future upside potential. Overtime .2 RS will continue to separate from .1.

In terms of values, there are very little correlations between RS and their respective GT brothers. They are just 2 different things and Rennsport will always be more desirable.

buy a corsa scuderia if you wanna spit and polish.
we need to move collectors on to other marques.
