Default What are the DE opportunities in Vancouver

I just spent last week with a new client in Vancouver (what a great city) and it turns out they're car nuts. I'm trying to encourage them to get involved with tracking their cars and want to give them some specific direction.

What tracks and organizations do you Vancouverite's use?

There is very little in Vancouver and area. We have Mission raceway if you are not afraid of Concrete barriers and like a short track. Closest at time is Shelton WA, The Ridge. Other plan for trips to ORP. New track is being built on the Island and should open as a semi private sometime in May this year. Also in the early building stage is area27 in the Okanagan approx. 3.5 hour drive east.
If I get bored I go to the Nuerburgring.

Just looked at the track map of MRP. Looks interesting but at 1.4 miles that's pretty short. But perhaps for someone just starting out it'll be enough to get them hooked and willing to travel longer distances for better tracks. I have a colleague in Portland that goes to ORP all the time and raves about it.

There is also Pacific Raceway in Seattle. Very fun track with a fast straight.

In Portland there is Portland International Raceway which has held a lot of pro races in the past. Its one of my favorite races when I used to race World Challenge Touring car in the mid-2000s.

Cantrell in Seattle actually transports some of their seattle area client cars down to socal in their transporter. They organize an arrive and drive type setup from october-march.

Pacific is an awesome track, and they finally got some new pavement on about half of it. Great elevation and close to bellevue/seattle.

Organizations I've used:
http://www.irdc-racing.com/ (pacific raceways)
http://www.turn2lapping.com/ (ridge motorsports park)
http://www.vcmc.ca/ (mission raceway park)
http://www.sccbc.net/ (mission raceway park)
http://www.ubcscc.com/ (mission raceway park, younger crowd)

Organizations I've heard good things about:
http://www.pnwr.org/ (ridge, pacific, etc.)
http://www.performancedriversclub.org/ (mission, ridge)

Track feedback (in order of distance from Vancouver):
Mission is really hard on brakes and has lots of concrete walls instead of runoff areas. Probably not a great starting place for fast cars. Has a weird transition from corner to drag strip that can upset fast cars.
Pacific is a great track and beautiful scenery. Has a couple gotcha corners that a good instructor can help navigate. Very cool elevation changes.
Ridge is another great track - probably the best overall track in the Pacific NW. Has decent runoff areas. Fun elevation changes.
Portland is good, decent runoff areas. Flat track
ORP - haven't driven but apparently has best runoff areas in Pacific NW. In the middle of nowhere..
Spokane is fun track but not a place you want to go off (has boulders close to track edges).

Coming soon to BC:
http://islandmotorsportcircuit.com/ (membership-based facility, shortish drive but 2hr ferry required, excited for this one!)
http://www.area27.ca/faq/ (members only at this point and not finished yet.. but it seems unlikely that they won't rent it...)

If only this was the next weekend as I want to hear your exhaust. I will be at The Ridge the following weekend for the IRDC 6-hour race.

The Seattle/Northwest BMW club is also a good resource, but I think you need an invite from a member to run with them.

+1,

The Events page seems to strive for a monthly tracking

I was just going to recommend the new Island Motorsport Circuit. It is scheduled to open April 2016. Very excited for this track!

For a first time D.E, Mission B.C will work great as an introduction to track.
It is not far from vancouver and it is small enough to keep the drama down.

I got my start at Mission in a 997RS back in 2010.

From there I ventured to Pacific Raceways in Washington and then to ORP in Oregon.

I am looking forward to the track on Vancouver Island as it will be easy to access for us city slickers.
