Question 2008 997 GT3 or 2016 Cayman GT4?

Folks... not for me... but a friend that asked me for my opinion... and me being too 911 bias, wanted to run it by the folks here.

Which one would you suggest?

He does not track the cars, just street use. (I have been trying for him to do at least a few DEs)...

He is looking for something he can use that will still retain a good value longer term.

This is my friend that bought my '02 996TT... the RSR project I had... then sold both... bought an M3... and sold his Panamera and recently got a '07 997TT

He is not happy with the M3 and is itching to change it... reason for looking at the GT3 and GT4.

Price on the two cars he is looking at have around a 10K difference...

If only street probably GT4 although long term who knows if the resale will remain as hot as it is now. I'd probably go for a 997.2 Turbo for street driving only at that price range.

He has a 997TT. That one he is keeping.

He is looking to add a GT3 or GT4...to replace his M3. This is where I can't make an objective opinion... I told him GT3, but reading and watching videos of the GT4 made me second guess my suggestion...

I am going over a few threads to see if I can gather some additional information to share with him.

Thank you for the feedback.

Doesn't matter. Both good! One comes with warranty and the other is not. If he would be spend a lot of time on track. Maybe a harder decision. Mid engine vs rear rear engine. On most streets in the US it wouldn't matter to much.

Very hard cars to predict future value.

GT3 all the way! This is very subjective, but nothing is finer looking than a GT3. Nothing sounds better than a GT3.

A 3.6 with a LWFW and a center pipe is amazing.

Advantage GT4 = warranty

Advantage GT3 = everything else.

The motor in the .1GT3 is special and the sounds with bypass are epic.

The GT4 fad will pass. It's still a Cayman, overpriced. You are lucky to get one not marked up 25k above MSRP.

Get the GT3.

^ This.

Like the GT4, but at the end of the day, its a car glued together with parts bin. GT3 was designed from ground up. The motor in the GT3 is something special....

Has he driven both? There are things some people prefer in one car over another.

Me personally, I love the way the GT3 drives, the GT4 is extremely livable on a day to day basis. The interior is leagues beyond what the 997.1 has in terms of features, design, etc.

Overall, my cup of tea would still be the GT3, I'm not big on the gearing of the GT4 like many other people.

It was raining today... so no. He could not drive either one. They are both at the same dealer so that makes things easier when comparing.
