Side Muffler Delete - less drone.
Hi a quick update for those running side muffler delete and factory centre muffler. I have a 997.1 3.6 GT3.
As you know this sounds awesome and weighs a lot less, the side mufflers are heavy. They also are very much a heater (over heater) for the rear tyres in a track day environment.
However if you have to drive some distances on motorways (say 110kmh) or 60-70mph the drone is a problem for most.
As such I tried this out and it worked and well. Drone in freeway situations is vastly reduced. At over around 2800 rpm it subsides.
The trick is to cancel the resonance. So I made up 2 2" dia side pipes. Both have a proper 90 degree bend that's curved then 260mm of 2" straight pipe. Capped.
See pic. All the best.
