I am interested in purchasing a 997.1 GT2. I found a nice car @1500 miles from home. I have asked for additional photos from the owner, spoke with the local Porsche dealer and asked for maintenance/accident records. I have checked on flights and found flights for @$550 to see the vehicle in person.
Here are my questions:
I want to use as little of my money as possible. I thought I would broker this sale through the local dealer and trade in my 2005 GT3 towards the car.
I think having the dealer involved may give me more opportunity at short term financing and reduce my liability for sale tax due to my trade in.
Has anyone have experience with this process? I have always used my money in the past, but I can't/won't for this purchase. The current owner still carries a lien on the car.
as long as u know dealer well and they want to help u, with a fee usually
1 decide that u want the car
2 dealer usually jae u sign a purchase agree for the new car (gt2 in is case) so u won't reneg
3 take ur gt3. tske ur cash and or secure financing (they want to know that u are approved )
4 they buy subject car from current owner
5 sell to u
Thank you for the reply. Who is best to broker the car? The dealer local to the seller, Brian Harris Porsche in West Lafayette LA, or my home town dealer (Boston).
i would have my local dealer do it.
remember they will need a fee for all this.
most dealers understand how and why to do this for their client (tax advantage)
good luck
Thanks, I had hoped to visit with you during Rennsport Reunion but the emergency room at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital scheduled me for an angioplasty that messed up my weekend. You never know, but it put my priorities straight - GT2.

I am in discussion with the owner GT2 in Louisiana. The owner seems to be a forth right fellow and the local dealership has good things to say about the car's condition. I had significant damage to the right front but it seems to have been repaired properly.

Given the accident, I would absolutely pay a dealership to do whatever they're willing to do. I would also check the car out in person. If all checks out then it's a valuation call. My GT2 has about half the mileage and I'd ask for a number way above $125k, so the accident/damage is definitely priced in, but whether the discount is high enough is for you to assess. You're stuck with a car with an accident history after sale, and only way to feel decent about this is a great deal.
The GT2 is difficult to price since there are so few in the marketplace. What would an accident free GT2 with 36,000 be worth? The examples I have found have very little mileage but they are asking collector dollars of $180,000-$190,000.
