1987 Porsche #17 Racing Porsche AG 962c

"Joest Racing, Hagenuk" Porsche TWR WSC-95 Michele Alboreto / Stefan Johansson / Tom Kristensen 1997 Le Mans

"The Porsche WSC-95 (sometimes referred to as the TWR WSC-95) was a Le Mans Prototype originally built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing. It was modified by Porsche from the original

group C Jaguar XJR-14 from which it derived,[1] and run by Joest Racing. Originally intended to race in the IMSA World Sportscar Championship, the WSC-95 actually saw very

little race action even though it managed to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in both 1996 and 1997 without actually being acknowledged as a factory supported project."

When I see these often vintage race cars, I sometimes wish I had been able to see them run when I was in Europe in '71 and '72 with the army. I did participate in our local sports car club's rally's. But in reality, with the great understaffing of our army units, due to so much being devoted to Vietnam, even getting a weekend off was nearly impossible. Or years later in the late '70's and the '80's. I was the physician for Heartland Park racing back in the early '90's, (IMSA had their own traveling physicians), so did get lots of photography time when that track ran everything from vintage to NASCAR.

My son and I have driven down to the Rolex for about 15 years now, and we always get there when they run the Vintage cars around for a few laps just to show what it must have been like when the great cars and their talented drivers ran them hard in past years. Like this:

NAMVET,

Thank you for sharing and for your service!!! The 1970s must have been an interesting time with the war and what went on in the motorsports world.
