i've driven both. setup well they shift similar to me. g50 feels more "modern'
hopefully someone will let me drive their 'like new' 86 so i can see what a near perfect on feels like :-)
the older cars are fun, especially if you like to tinker (me!). every drive creates new little projects. lol!!! pelican and rmeuropean are my favorite new shopping destinations

I was there as well. Was sitting next to the guy that sold it to the consignor (CNC Motors) so I was privy to what seller had into it. Everyone's happy.
We were surprised that it did so well...it was later in the day and many of the cars were not meeting reserve and not selling, especially some of the early 911's. Part of it looked like the estimates were just too high, but part of me thinks it was also the crowd and auction itself - it seems the general crowd and buyers at Mecum are not as affluent as the potential buyers that come to RM, Goodings, Bonhams, etc...and the ambiance makes it seems so much more rushed and unkept.
We went to Goodings after and completely different ambiance. Only one car from what I remember didn't sell and most were hitting low estimate if not more.

I was there as well, but had to leave before the car sold. When the car was in the queue, it was filthy dirty because they park the cars on the dirt--which is blasphemy. Did they at least clean the car before it rolled up on stage?

Regarding the dust, a few cars I saw looked like their windows were left open overnight, resulting in interiors that looked nearly as bad as the RS looked on the outside.

Any Porsche 911 is not a Mecum car. Don't know who decided to list their car with them because they got it all wrong. As a matter of fact I look at the Mecum lot listing's to see if anything 911 wise will be listed especially in the Midwest and the like - those cars usually always sell for way less than they are worth.

Wow sounds like the bidder was bidding with his emotion's more than his head. He got ripped way the hell off!
Looks like the consignor picked the right auction. More than likely the car would not have came that close at any of the other auctions.

Would not consider this any crazier than the $110,000 for a 1974 911E "resto-mod"...where I think the "bid still goes on". Maybe there was something very special about it...like owned or driven by ?????.
Wow!

I'd spent the whole weekend up there at pebble for the first time and was really impressed with everything but the traffic going to Werks/Quail on Friday. total disaster- next time I'm bringing a bicycle to hustle from point to point.
All the cars get parked outside except for the real big dogs like the 500-1M+ range cars.
seeing the crowds I can agree that mecum, gooding, RM etc all have different attendants and consigners. They all have very different reputations and as you ask around people like different ones for different reasons. Say what you want about Mecum but the cool thing there is how eclectic the car mix really is. Unlike RM where there was literally nothing that I could impulse buy, there was really some tempting stuff in the 50-100 range at mecum. RM stuff was 300K and up to 16M. The pinnacle collection was totally as advertised.
in keeping with the original post, if anyone wants to sell their 997 GT3RS or GT2RS let me know.

That's why I take a look at all the Mecum Auction's for Porsche's across the land because in general the 911's go for less than they are worth. One word that pisses me off the most is the compound word RetroMod! Makes me want to vomit. But the Mecum and Barrett Jackson crowd are different than the RM & Bonham's et al crowd.
There are two GT2RS at duPont Registry @ $339K with over 6K miles and one a@ $299K with over 3K miles.
Then GT3RS4.0 at, get this, $510K with barely over 1000 miles then Braman Motors in Florida say they have two of them one with 24 miles @ $204,200 and another @ $204,100 with 21 miles. These last two seem far too low of a price when one consider's valuation! Too bad you guy's don't play Miami you could take a look... I didn't look at Car dot Com or eBay.
