Default DME report opinions

Gentleman,
I am looking at possibly purchasing a late RS with the following DME report. Car has approx 5,000 mi and reportedly was not tracked.

Curious any thoughts folks have as I am not that familiar with how to read these. I realize that the range 4 overrevs are not ideal, and that Porsche dealers can not CPO a car with any range 4 or above.

Thanks in advance.

The DME cannot be changed, I wouldn't touch a car with anything other then a level 1 or 2. You will have to try and deal with it when you sell it.

While I can't give much insight on if this is bad or good. I have attached the Porsche Motor Over-Speed Ignition Ranges document.

From what I read, range 3 and over, you should walk away...

I still don't get his over-rev thing. Don't the car have rev limiter already?
How do you over rev a GT3? miss shift?

These are very few ignitions aren't they ? can someone interpret how many revolutions of the engine 216 ignitions represents ?

while it has range 3 and 4, the total number is very low. i wouldn't worry much about it.

Hey Mooty,
While on the subject, I have a report I'd like an opinion on...

Range 1 - 1005 / 485 H
Range 2 - 358 / 485 H
Range 3 - 271 / 455 H
Range 4 - 242 / 455 H
Range 5 - 109 / 455 H
Range 6 - 0

Total hours - 646

^

assumign it's a GT3/rs

1. the guy have no clue how to drive
2. while it's not an issue 200 hours ago, you should be fine, but i would want a very SERIOUS discount for me to buy this car. 40-50k below mkt.

a friend with an RS had a range 5, he dropped price 50k. that to me is a risk i can take, but otherwise, there are many other cars out there.

are you looking at 997.2GT3? if so, i got one for you. pm me

How many total operating hours? This is important as the last over revs occurred at 117 hrs of operation. Also, haven't been there been posts that Porsche won't warranty or honor with range 3 over revs? Your relationship with your dealer will be a factor.

If I read it correctly, 171.6 is shown for "Operat. hours counter".
I know dealers can not CPO it because of any range 4. I dont think they can void standard factory warranty, but dont know? Only has few mos left on initial 4 yr factory warranty.

They will void the warranty on the engine.

If it only has 171.6 hours and occurred at 117.2 hours, not a lot of running since then.

I would still walk away.

For sale car has about 6 mos factory warranty left. While not long, if really could be voided, that would suck.

If Porsche has an out for a $50K engine, they will take it. The DME was installed for them, not for you and I to discuss on the internet.
