if that is the car I think it is (can't be too many with black centerlocks), I'd check the paint with a meter.

To my untrained eye.. it looked like there was some paint work when I saw it in the flesh.

Was a Momentum Porsche... and I last saw it on porscheusa.com for 125k... no takers for a long time at 139k

Car has something like 125,000+ over revs 1-6, Momentum Porsche was trying to sell it for 139k OBO. Momentum was very discourteous when trying to ask questions. They refused to sell the car to me, even though I was first in line. Car has history and the Porsche dealer didnt want to disclose any of it to me. With that said, I have moved on and found another Gt2.

Whats the asking price?

Maybe a little quick to jump saying there is history, sounds more like a poor sales team... Can you please elaborate

Asking is ~150k.. not many 997 GT2 on the market

The original owner babied this car. I've followed this car since 2013 and after the first owner sold car, history starts becoming fuzzy.

They stated previous owner (4th owner) was an Texas oil baron son that owned the car. Didnt know how to drive and traded it in for a new GT3.

Below you will see the information they sent me. The Over rev page isnt complete and they wouldn't send complete page to me. Missing operation hours and how many hours have passed since the over revs happened. Thats about all I know. I moved on once they started to avoid my questions.

There are Gt2s out there for sale which aren't posted online. Make sure to test drive the GT2 before proceeding forward on this purchase.

Thank you, appreciate the info... all threads I've read about DME report say to pass on anything with over revs in the 4 and 5 range, sucks... car looks awesome and was priced pretty well

The way I saw the car at Momentum Porsche. If I could get it cheap enough (130k), and if engine needed to be rebuild (20-25k), I would rebuild engine. In which then I would have a GT2 in my garage with a brand new engine for around 160k+/- after taxes/etc. The over revs can be bad news or good news. As for collectors, this car is a big no. If you want a daily weekend driver who cares about over revs. On that, please note, these engines are built very well and Porsche limits the rev limiters way below what this engine can take. As long the over revs are from accelerating and not downshifting, the engine is probably still in one piece. You would have to look at operation hours/etc. It could also have a faulty DME. 125k over revs is insane and technically not possible. See if there are any metal chunks in the oil. It was a bet I was willing to take but they didnt want to sell to me. Thankfully I didnt buy it and found a better Gt2 that suits my personal preference.

Does anyone know of a single 997GT2 which has had severe engine problems following recorded over revs ?

Whilst I understand Porsche's warranty companies being ultra cautious is there any data (on failures) out there ?

Car was in a stable in Jenks, OK. just a year ago and was in pristine condition. Stable included several nice cars including another GT2 so I'm sure it was in fine shape at that point. Made its way to Houston and ended up at high-line independent shop. Then a few months later, was for sale at Momentum Porsche. About 2500 miles in that short time frame (a few months). I spoke with someone who checked it out. Possible that the last 2500 miles were not as kind as the first 9000. But good point above...provided no body damage repair, the turbo motor is tough as nails and under-tuned. IT would take a pretty nasty down-shift to hurt that motor and the signs of damage should be apparent now. Get a good shop to check out and use the findings as leverage on price. "If" true that some rich kid with "more attachments than experience", got his hands on it for a while, could be looking at a new clutch (which is not a big deal). I'm pretty sure some of the guys above know a little more about the condition of the car now. Hope this helps and good luck. P.S. btw, is the car still in Houston or did it leave town?
