Default What was your previous car?

What was your previous car and how did it compare to your GT3?

I had a 2009 Corvette Callaway Z06 SC652 which was an incredibly fast car but it did not compare to the GT3 in many ways. The clutch on the GT3 is so precise, it is a lot harder but has much less travel and starts to engage much quicker. Obviously the quality of the interior is much better in the P Car and I even had a lot of Caravaggio interior pieces in the Vette which are top quality leather and alacantara but it still lacked the leather dash and door panels the Porsche has. I did not think the exhaust note would compare to that american V8 sound especially with the Callaway double D exhaust but the first time I put it in sport mode and hit the back roads I realized the GT3 exhaust was unbelievable. I could only imaging with some exhaust mods such as Fabspeed or Shark Werks. The handling does not even compare. Unless there are a lot of long straight aways the Porsche will smoke the Z06 with over 200hp less. I have been an american car guy/Vette lover for years (with the exception of our BMW 335i daily driver) and even still have a Viper but cannot believe what I have been missing. Love the GT3. It lives up to its reputation.

I have always loved and wanted a 993 TT but the prices have just been more than I wanted to spend for a car. I originally started out thinking I wanted a 997 TT but the more I looked at and heard about the GT3's I decided to spend a little more, well OK, a lot more and went with the GT3. I thought since I was spending more I may include the 993 tt in my search but to my amazement they seemed to go up from low 100's just last winter to 200 ish. I could not believe how fast they recently depreciated.

2010 Nissan GT-R premium. Stock except mid pipe, brake rotors, track pads and fluid. So much power and low speed traction. So heavy and expensive on consumables at the track.

M3 CSL. Perfect car to learn how to drive fast on Scottish roads as it was very easy to drive quickly. While I’ve been obsessed with GT3s since the 6.2 came to the US while I was in college, the GT3 was actually a logical next step from the CSL. The CSL could attack the bumpier / tighter roads and you could toss it into corners. The GT3 loves 3 and 4 gear corners.

Both cars have manic, rev happy motors, which are a must for me.

More expensive than an equally tracked GT3?

Easily more expensive. Bigger wheels/tires, bigger and more expensive brakes, transmission and diff fluid that needs to be changed every 3,000 miles at $600-$700 a change.

I had wanted and tried to buy or acquire a Cobra since I first saw and read about them in HS. Eventually, in 2000, bought this version by Superformance. 351 Windsor pushed out to 396 CI, and as time passed, put in 3 IRS diffs to find the right ratio, two Tremecs, and slowly changed out the shocks, oiling, brakes, roll bar, had three sets knock-offs, on one set 335 PS2's from a Viper, extra gages, Holley, and on and on. Drove it over 140 thousand miles, many thousand of track miles with me or my son as pilot. It was fast, precise, loud and would run in the high 11's in the quarter. As my daily driver, it took a loot of work and commitment, and eventually my son convinced me to move to a Porsche three years ago. Our Cobra went to a good home. Once, Chris and I drove from Charlotte to Topeka, he was second to a Z06, and we drove it 1100 miles home, top off, without ever turning off the motor. Epic experience. At some point in a car guy's life, he owes it to himself to experience a Cobra.

A properly set up Cobra is a formidable car on the track.

All the best....

My last two fun cars. The difference in size, weight and power is comical. The GT-R is nearly double of everything.

1,900 lbs vs. 3,800 lbs

250 hp vs 485 hp

2WD vs AWD

2 seats vs 4 seats

Brief affair with a White '08 GT2. Still clinging on to memories.

- GT2 was certainly faster; lag minimal when WOT when rowing through the gears; great low end torque.
- GT2 handling felt like my GT3 with another 250lbs in the passenger seat; certainly not a TT with modes, more like a GT3 with some extra weight and turbo charged

mine was the exact opposite of the GT3 - FWD-Front Engine...figured good to learn the other side of the coin:
i'm not a good driver but I'm about 7 seconds faster in the GT3 vs. the Type-R at Sonoma, the type-R was easier to push and find the limits.

Wow, that was major step up. Good to see you enjoyed the Type-R as much as you did.
