Default 997 GT2 Transaxle

Trying to judge current market, might be looking for one...What is a good used 997GT2 gearbox worth? Availability?
My Dad is buying a 996TT, tiptronic we plan on converting to manual, considering using my 6GT2 box in that and getting a 7GT2 box for mine.
TIA

Last one I heard about was $18k. And I consider them all cores. I would only ever buy a "good used" gearbox that had been inspected and resealed. Otherwise I assume $5-8k work on top of purchase price.

Oh, and your dad should get a 996 GT3 gearbox. More available. Cheaper. Good LSD once you re clutch it. And good gearing for the turbo. A 997 GT3 gearbox would be geared too short.

Thank-you very much for the info and suggestions! The 7GT2 box sounds prohibitively expensive and agree 100% about used gearbox risks.
What is the typical price range for 6GT3/2 boxes? Assume the GT3 box can also take 7GT2 internals? Would like taller gears(7GT2 or otherwise) throughout in my car; maybe I install my box in dad's car and build a 'beat' GT3 box to my ideals?
Thanks again!

If you want taller gears, I would look for a GT3 core gearbox ($8-10K) and install the 997 GT2RS mainshaft and 3rd gear. The parts won't break the bank because they are a dealer item (about half the price of my equivalent parts) and it's a great 1-2-3 for a turbo. A bunch of 996TT guys have gone that route when they **** their 2nd gear.

Once again, I really appreciate the feedback
Might end up just getting a stock 996tt box and adding an LSD(could you PM a few options/prices?) as dad is mostly looking for a 'cruiser' car at this point, not a track guy anymore...and keeping/doing the upgrades to my GT2 box at somepoint.
I may have a line on a new 7GT2 box at a reasonable price, will investigate that route as well (could you also PM options/price on a ramp+plate upgrade for the 997 LSD)
Thanks again!
