Just took delivery of 09 GT2, not good in snow....
After several months of searching i rather suddenly came across an 09 gt2, basalt black, black, $207 sticker, one owner 13K miles, no stories. Just took delivery tonight and havent had the chance to thoroughly run through it, but looks good on the surface.
I waffled aimlessly, asking stupid questions and messaging rennlisters for advice. I was stuck between .1 gt3/rs, .2 gt3/rs and the 08, 09 gt2. I will agree that from a aural experience the na cars are better. I started into my auto personality disorder with a honda s2000 and still believe it was the least expensive and best sounding engine note that screamed to 9K rpms. Im obviously omitting the ferrari brand as there is no real price comparison. The other strong argument is na cars are linear and more predictable and in the case of the gt3 variants a less experienced driver like myself can probably drive one at 7-8/10ths where as the gt2 may not be so forgiving.
I settled on the gt2 based on my turbo experience in the past, cayenne turbo s, panamera turbo s and still in the garage 996 turbo(which i hope to be listing in the classifieds soon). I enjoy the turbo power delivery and doubt i will do much track so the comfort seats will suit me fine. I plan on picking up a 991gt3 vs. a 430 scud for some track days, as its been at least 10 years since ive done a DE. It did come with what appears to be a porsche roll bar strickly for looks. I also wanted to get a car that had taken an appreciable hit on the depreciation scale, the gt3 cars were not as good of a 'value' at this time, but the future will determine how the gt2 holds up versus the gt3s. I didnt buy as an investment, but wish to minimize losses as I have suffered some mild case of CAR ADD in the past.
Lastly, I wanted to stick to a theme. My 1976 930 is a minimally equipped, rwd turbo with a raw and frighteningly long turbo lag that keeps you on your toes. I do not believe that the lineage of the 930 aligns with the awd 993,996,997 and 991 variants of the contemporary turbo. The forefather for these cars is the 959. I believe the ancestral lineage of the gt2 variants starts with the original 930, the original widow makers.
I wish to thank those that helped and a special shout out to Mooty for his to the point and on the mark advice. Back in the day i was a member and upgraded to paid membership tonight for my appreciation for all I learned in the process.
They delivered tonight to my office with my option to refuse the car if I found it unsatisfactory. I pulled the trigger and had them unload. I drove it back to the storage barn at my office and realized the sport cups are not great on snow In rockcrawler fashion I deflated the tires probably down to 10 lbs and placed some walnut 5 quarter boards to gain traction up what i would estimate was a 25 foot mini-hill with a 5% incline. After traction control was off I manage to spin it to the parking spot after 25 minutes trying to avoid spinning into the building or the concrete posts, while my staff took photos....
Its been a while since i've posted photos..Many thanks again the forum has been invaluable.
