People have total meltdowns on BaT and elsewhere with GT2 DME reports. The stock valvetrain is happy under about 7,600 RPM, and most tuners will automatically raise the rev limiter to 7,400, but lord help any GT2 that shows even a few range 5 (7,900 RPM) ignitions...something that can easily happen with that rev hang and as Steve mentioned, over uneven surfaces as the car is only RWD. I tell people not stress unless they find excessive range 5 or any range 6. GT3 this ain't.

Update – My rev limiter is set at only 7,000 RPM. I was doing some 3rd gear pulls with Durameteric data logging yesterday testing the big intercoolers. Previous owner installed a gas pedal extension that it turned out attached to the gas pedal by way of pointy sheetrock type screws. Well, the tip of the top screw got stuck into the firewall pedal stop, giving me a stuck gas pedal at full throttle at over 100 MPH!

Got trans into neutral and reached down with my hand to unstick the gas pedal. Not fun! Engine must have bounced off the rev limiter at least 5 or 6 times in the meantime.

Well, the interesting thing is that looking at that data afterwards, according to Durameteric, my RPM got as high as 7,527 RPM during that episode. If that is accurate, which I have no reason to doubt, it means that GT2s with a 7,400 RPM rev limiter can hit range 5 DME ignitions just by bouncing off it!

@mchrono that must have been terrifying! I'm glad you're OK and that your GT2 is as well...I'm sure those were some very long feeling seconds, not to mention the amount of distance you'd be covering during the time of the problem too! Very solid data points helping to highlight why the GT2s can register even up to Range 5's for sure my friend.
