Harris is an enthusiatic reviewer, and has a real passion for MT, and that's what makes him fun to watch. I found his early-on review of the 991 GT3 to be well done, and he skirted the issue of what he thought of the paddle movement. Pretty clear here what he thinks. There is nothing like watching a .2 RS being pitched sideways.

Re the Z/28, I'm pretty sure it will make a fun track day car. I have a Z06 carbon and the motor is a peach and the car is fast. You don't get nearly the same steering/throttle feedback you get in an RS, and the engine runs hot in longer DE sessions. But there is zero understeer and a lot of grunt. Trail braking tends to be a no-no. Wonder how good the Z/28 suspension is as the Magnetic setup in the Z06 carbon is too soft for hard track work.

I want another 997 RS...

I helped develop an aftermarket spring kit for the Audi TTRS that comes with Magna-ride suspension. I can confidently say, that the ZO6 can very likely use higher rated springs with the existing magnetic dampeners. The Audi TTRs was able to very comfortably use springs that were 70% stiffer - and believe it or not actually made the car ride softer, as the shocks were massively over-rated by the manufacturer and the reaction speed and range of the dampeners is so much bigger and faster than traditional shocks. I have no idea if Corvette guys have tried it on their cars but it certainly works on the Audi TTRS. (www.msskits.com).

A number of Z06 owners have attempted to re-program the mangetic dampeners but the issue is the spring rates for the leaf springs. It doesn't appear there is a good aftermarket leafspring in conjunction with getting the dampeners re-programmed so guys like Mikymu and Werks have dumped their OEM and gone with coilover like Ohlins and Motons.

His commentary was:
Comparing Apples to apples.
E9X m3 vs. M4 .

Tq is uncontrollable on new car. Not a fan of throttle input programing/response. Same for steering It also feels extremely big and heavy vs. before. Chassi is snappy. He calls it a 335 on steroids.

Disclosure. His E9x has 0 options. Only competition package / manual.

Now that you have been to buttonwillow. You have an idea of what it takes to go sideways on every turn. Yes he is a show boat sometimes. He has very good car control.

I have no idea about leaf springs that is for sure, but what I'm trying to say is that re-programming was not necessary at all - the inherent nature of the magna dampeners, at least in the case that were specced for the Audi TTRS, are so beyond the capabilities of the stock springs that just changing them out massively improved the car. If someone does make a stiffer aftermarket leaf spring, I would highly recommend trying them.

I drove the new M3 last week (launch car with carbon brakes and all the whistles). Describing it as a hotted up 335 pretty well sums it up. Felt a lot like a nimbler version of my old Audi S4 and/or the 335 but with more grunt.

Didn't feel like an M car to me but felt very competent. Great for racking up miles on the highway but nowhere near the raw feel of my E46 M3 or even the more subdued E9X cars. Even for a DD, and even if priced identically, I would probably buy an E9X over the new car. I did however like the larger interior size as the back seat is actually usable. Its like the E39 5 series but with more headroom. That would play a factor in the decision...

Regarding the Z/28. The 305 section square setup is just insane. Would love to drive one.

Agreed. E46 M3 is the 996 GT3 of the M cars

Dinan S/C M3

Re tire setup, Z06 can run 315/345 R6
