Default Center muffler, broken studs due to nut/stud seizure.....

Was taking off the side mufflers and the studs on the factory center muffler broke off in the middle of the threads due to nut/stud seizure... Some one did not put anti seize on them!

Has this happened to anyone... Repair suggestions?

Antiseez is good. Also next time some heat on the nut/threads by an oxy/acetaline torch works wonders. As for repair probably going to need to grind off old studs and weld on new ones.

It happened to me right when I was about to trade for a bypass. You could try to apply heat around the stud and extract it or just still and tap new threads

Happened to me. Half of them broke off.

How about getting to the bolts... 2 of them are a PITA.
I had to remove the valve to get to one of them.... and thats even with the bumper and heat shields removed.

From reading the DIY it seemed it was going to be easy... Itr was not hard, but a PITA... And no mention of studs snapping...

Spray with penetrating oil and let them soak before removing, is my recommendation.

Sometimes when these break off, you still have a few threads left - the first three threads in a bolted connection carry nearly the entire load. If you can get three full turns on the nuts, they will hold. You may need to chase the remaining portion of the stud threads.

The "correct" fix is to grind off the studs and weld new ones on.
