Default 997.1 exhaust sound side muffler delete vs disconnected valves.

Hello,

Will removing the side mufflers/installing side muffler delete pipes make much of a difference over the sound of the car with the valves disconnected?

Just wondering if I get the delete pipes I will get some more audible benefit on top of the weight savings.

I dont drive the car much and dont mind the "drone" around town... on road trips I use noise canceling in ear head phones anyways...

Thx!

Primary goal is weight saving (especially off the rear) about 42 lbs.
Sound is secondary.

Better performance, better sound and awesome weight savings.

By the way, all pipes (in this case elbow, side-muffler-delete pipes) are not created equal.

I have this. Little bit of drone between 2500-2800 RPMS. I tend not to stay down that low so it hasn't been an issue for me.

Loud and awesome.

Thinking about getting a track pipe bc I've heard the OEM muffler can't handle the extra heat with the side deletes.

Side deletes are typically not too loud.

Quality of sound depends on the choice of side deletes and center muffler.

I'm curious about this. I unplugged my valves and LOVED the sound (and the fact that it got rid of the annoyer "tickover" where it gets louder all of a sudden at 4k rpm), but I noticed a very distinct (even if not massive) loss of low end torque (no percieved difference at upper rpms). I plugged the connector back in, and it immediately felt better. I have the sharkwerks bypass. Coming from a turbo p-car, if there one thing I want to avoid upon modding my 3, its a loss of ANY torque. Just my experience (and I think I'm being objective becaues I really did prefer the sound unplugged)

It's louder and more aggressive on the low end where the side mufflers are restrictive and basically the same as stock up top. I'm not sensitive to drone but it was noticeable below 3k. Like previously stated the biggest gains are weight reduction, lower engine bay temps and less heat on the rear tires. It's relatively cheap compared to other exhaust options so it wouldn't hurt to try.

I also noticed the loss in torque down low when I unplugged the valves... But i figure the same happens with any of the other aftermarket exhausts.

I have the SW's bypass with the valves unplugged also...i noticed the severe loss in torque on the low side also but i love the sound you get cruising in 3-4k range and all the popping you get when shifting. I'am on the fence but if i want to get rid of the side mufflers I'm going to get the Fabspeed side muffler delete pipes and there center mufflers with black tips. Save the weight but keep the noise not to loud.

MikejG3,
If you want a fabspeed i have one for sale..I really liked it. In terms of performance + sound for mild use.

A friend of mine whom has a sharwerks + evoms tune dragged raced against my fabspeed exhaust ( I do not have a tune or any other HP mod). Every single time, my car pulled against his. Granted, he has a roll bar (and a bit more track gear in the car then me) and my car didn't t at the time... I'm selling mine but not for a sharwerks exhaust fwiw.

Yeah, it'll make a diffence. Lol! Your neighbors will send a lynch mob after you when you start that car up at 7am. Here's a video of a friend's 997GT3 with the rear muffler delete pipes. It's strictly a track car. It's friggin loud, easily louder than a Cup car. Sounds awesome though but I doubt you could get away with it on the street. Consider that the microphone was my iPhone inside my car in that video..

But that's side muffler delete and center muffler delete (Sharkwerks style exhaust) right?

Yeah, pretty much straight pipes. Car originally had the sharkwerks thing on there before and he took it all out. It sounds bad *** in person. Very loud but not annoying, it's just the right frequency. You can easily hear the car a mile away from the pits. Not sure how it would effect sound but if I recall his car has EVOMS headers and straight pipes running a 100 octane flash.
