Default BMW i8, not a GT3 price thread

MT reviewed the i8 for its track merits, and here picks it over the 918, without considering that it is hundreds of thousands less. They also remarked that its weight is similar to today's 911’s, also several hundred pounds less than the 918.

Beyond losing the stick and the Metzger, does anyone else think Porsche is going even further off the rails with future product? No question, the 918 is faster, but in terms of the price, and the driving experience, are they losing ground?

I'm driving i8 and m4 on track in a couple of weeks. Will bring my 4.0 as well. Really looking forward to driving the i8 and see what it can do.

I would say performance car, not so much a track car. But who knows. For being a hybrid it's lightweight.......

I think you'd have to lower expectations, at the track. This isn't a million dollar hybrid, but it shows what can be done in this tech for a lot less. Chris Harris has some interesting comments that separate it from the P1 and 918, at 5:05:

The virtues are 152hp/ltr, carbon, low weight, cg and around 30mpg if you beat the crap out of it.

I'm just going to say, Dude, it's Motor Trend of all Magazine. Sure they drive a lot od diffirent cars throughout the year but they don't have a real hot shoe among them. They've even said so themselves.

Besides if they pick the i8 let them. That doesn't change anything - besides BMW still has to come up to the plate a prove performance with a car off the manufacturing line like Porsche did. As for that still haven't heard a peep from McLaren about and P1 Ring time, knor I don't think we ever will. McLaren never reports their ring times! They didn't for their F1 back in the 90s or the MP4!
