Default Collapsible Ratcheting 3/4" Breaker Bar for CLs

I haven't seen this particular bar listed on here. It is sold by Matco, PN 14ADR40T. Closed it is 24". Open it is 40". The ratchet head is a nice feature. Price, $183.00 off the Matco truck.

Cool....but if you use the Precision Instruments torque wrench you don't need this breaker bar.

Mike, I have the Precision Instruments torque wrench. I've never been sure about reversing the wrench and using it as a breaker bar. Not the ratchet but the torque sensing piece by rotating it 180 deg. I believe that would leave the adjustment dial in the up position for removal. On occasion it seems like the breakaway torque is pretty high.

I take it you have been doing this. I'm sure you've had your CLs off and on way more than me.

If you purchase directly from the Matco site, this part is listed as "DR40T."

I know that the Precision Instruments one is a split beam and I can only speak from experience with "breakaway" style torque wrenches here. As an FAA licensed Airframe and Power plant mechanic I can tell you that it is not generally accepted practice or even advisable to break loose a torqued fastener with a torque wrench.

Default Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anything in

the Precision Instrument paperwork that cleared its torque wrench for use as a breaker bar.

It does state you can store it w/ the torque setting at the desired level w/o fear of damaging it.

I, too, would never use a torque wrench as a breaker bar.

My 2 cents. Your results may vary.
