Default Heretic!!! Get him

So, I drove a SLS Black Series today on circuit of the americas. In sport plus, the car was so predictable, so powerful, so controllable and so awesome that I can't even compare it with my gt3. This is not to say the car wasn't fun, oh boy, it was. It was doing everything I am able to do with the gt3 (most importantly, steering with the throttle, the linear response, even more balanced and rigid than the gt3). I am very seriously considering acquiring one (okay, maybe not, the depreciation on any amg is a killer). Anyway, I wanted to post this and see if any of you have both (gt3 and sls or better yet 4.0 and sls black series) and if you can chime in.

Know the SLS but not the Black one. Never thought I would use this word on a car with a bonnet so long that it belongs to a different zip code, but it's actually very NIMBLE around a track. The achilles heel is the AMG MCT which has a mind of its own--maybe the BS got that sorted but in regular guise the box will refuse a legit downshift from time to time. For street and occasional track use the SLS is brilliant. A soundtrack to die for, copious torque beyond the realm of a 4.0, looks to match. If you have a spare dime, you won't regret picking up a BS (which is likely more depreciation-proof than regular SLS'es whose values have been dropping precipitously after the product end-of-life).

just drove one recently. BLOWN AWAY COMPLETELY.

i'd driven the regular SLS, and it was nice but not the sort of car that would keep me up at night thinking about it.

not so the SLS Black. that car is amazing. best way to describe it is that it manages to keep the docility and easy-to-drive-when-relaxed nature of the regular SLS, with a ferocity when you get on it that is just so exciting. that lower final drive, quicker tranny (reprogrammed i guess?), wider track, sticky MPSC2's and throatier exhaust really make a huge difference.

the owner of the car I drove is on RL and owns a 4.0RS.

here's the car:

and with my 997.1 in the background

the SLS BS is a pretty rad car. A special benz which is nice because they havent had much in the lines of something sport car special since the 50's gullwing IMO.

have a few buddies with C63 black series. They all love it. Perfect daily/weekend, performs well and super fun on the track according to them.

One of them is looking to sell his for a .1RS as he misses shifting gears. Silver car with 21k miles, all options besides the big wing. PM me if interested.

I just took delivery of an SLS GT - the BS and GT both benefit from an upgraded/reprogrammed tranny, which was probably the single biggest criticism against the original SLS. Same basic Getrag unit as the one in the F 458.

Interestingly, both MB and the dealer have been **** about reminders on properly observing break-in procedures - none of the new cars I have bought in recent years have had such multiple reminders. So it will be a few weeks before I can properly compare against the 4.0.

The SLS is, or will soon be, out of production. My dealer had problems with getting allocation for a spec build. AMG will use the SLS assembly line for their new 911 fighter - very nice initial photos, but no gullwing.

Guys, the C63 Black Series market is completely different from the regular C63 market. C63 BS prices have held up pretty well. All other regular AMG's, however, get butchered in depreciation.

And +1 to what everyone has said here... The SLS Black Series is an absolute monster. Completely astonishing.

For context, I've been monitoring the Black Series market for around 5 years now (all models). And I daily drove a C63 Black Series for ~9500 miles before selling it last year (2013 model).
