Why so expensive to ship a clutch?

Just went to order a 4.0 RS Clutch kit (without flywheel) from a very good, well-known Porsche Parts Dealer, and it was $249.00 to ship it like 6 states away to the mid US. Has anyone encountered this or know why so expensive?

Apples to oranges perhaps, but AWE charged me $17.39 to ship a Sachs 2.5 Clutch kit from PA to WI.
$249 is definitely far above actual cost. You could ship a set of wheels and tires for less.

What service did you request? Next day air? Ground? Insurance? Residential address or business?

Company said it is a glitch they are working on, but no matter what one orders, the shipping comes up as 249.00! The company is very reputable and we have all ordered from them. I am sure I would not have been charged that had I ordered at night online.

Glad to hear it all worked out for you.
I thought maybe the company was testing a new biz model where they shipped "COD"..."Change on Delivery" where the delivery driver changes the part for you upon delivery.
