Default Price check on a GT3...repainted

May possibly pick up a 997.1 GT3. (Haven't signed in here in a bit. But had a 997.2 meteor grey that I sold to a Canadian member on here).

The car is a 2007 997.1 GT3 steel brakes, red stitching and speedo. Has 28k miles. He says no accidents and has clean carfax which I will check.

The catch is he repainted the car as he wanted a change. Will this make it tough to resell in future or will be a good pickup for track people at a lower price? What is a fair price for the car if all checks out?

Is this the one that was painted blue? Repaint on a car this (not) old not good. On resale it's damaged goods.

No was red I think. But say the car is looked over and in perfect condition and you planned on holding the car. What is a proper price? 55k? 60k?

To me at least 25k under current market?

Here's the problem: Carfax is junk and since it has had a full repaint it will be hard to tell if it didn't have major body work done. If you go down this route, well worth the extra $ during PPI to fully check out mechanicals, but also have the frame checked for alignment, and pull off all the underbody, bumpers, and under fender panels to check for body repair work. People who know these cars well should be able to tell if something major was done.

Cars this bastardized just scream of other issues though.

color change is a sin in the car bible.

It would take $10k to change it back, and it would always have a full repaint history regardless which means another $5-10k dip under market value depending.

I would look for another car.

The owner of this car is about to learn a valuable lesson on expense of color change and negitive resale.

Given that the previous owner could have just wrapped the car in another color, it just doesn't make sense to me.

It would have to be like $40K or less for me to even entertain buying it as full out track car only.

I believe your car went to Vancouver B.C.
You sold it for a super deal and it was a great looking car.
What boggles me is how the price has not depreciated and if anything has gone up in price since then! Amazing for a modern car in todays market.

DD: Your old car is the first .2 GT3 I ever drove. SSTHO let me try her out right after she arrived up north. As you can see from my avatar, I was blown away by her.

Repaint just for color change doesn't make sense. If you can grab at significantly below market, maybe. Did the owner shoot before/after? I know I would have documented the color change to show no accidents but that's just crazy **** me. What about a no-stories 996 GT3 at the same price instead?

Amazing! Glad you got to take her out and brought you over. My friend has a 996 gt3 and for me it has to be a 997. It's my daily and I love the look of the 997.

He's local and I know him a bit. Trying to meet up with the owner this weekend to go over the car. I would take it to porsche for a full inspection first. Will find out all the details and keep you guys posted. Thank you for all the help so far.

Hey Sam! It was funny how that transaction happened. Don't know why there were no buyers. I didn't even negotiate your asking and like everyone else, I like a good deal. Thanks again.

Get back into a 7.2 GT3. Your old car has been sold to a good friend and I get visiting rights. So, all is good. She is well cared for.

Like everyone else, I would stay away from potential red flags. I want piece of mind when buying and your situation would scare me off. Tougher to sell to the next guy as well.

Pass on a painted car. There must be a story behind it.

Most guys today, if they want to change the color of their car will just do a vinyl wrap. Cheaper and protects the paint which ultimately preserves the resale value.

I say buy it, it is just a car. Make sure you get it for a price you like. Have it inspected and if no damage repairs, then it is just cosmetic.

This^^^

Price right for a car in the right condition, fit for your purpose... only walk away if you want a concourse show car for the future... and even then there plenty having full paint!

Only caveat, get it check and a descent paint shop for alignment and quality of job (they can check for filler (bondo?) and paint thickness)
