Default Good helmet to helmet communication for DE?

Any suggestions for a good helmet to helmet communicator? Ideally one that is low profile/width inside the helmet to prevent ear discomfort. Non permanent mounting, looking for one you can just slide in and out of the helmet.

Chatterbox is the only option I've seen. However, it's quite uncomfortable having that bulky ear piece
in your helmet. A couple of instructors i've met prefer yelling LOL.

+1 for Chatterbox. I have mine clipped on the rim of the helmet with the speakers wired into the helmet. Very convenient - nobody has to hold anything. I have the plug-in student headset, which I can plug in after I am already buckled in with HANS device.

There is a bluetooth headset for the student, but I haven't tried it.

I've had it for about 5 years, maybe more. Battery died a couple of years ago, and it was hard to find a replacement, but I eventually was able to locate one.

Chatterbox is great, if you haven't purchased a helmet yet the Stilo helmets offer built in communicators that integrate with the chatterbox and offer a seamless integration with the communicator.

The earpiece fits really well in the ear cutout on my helmet, I can't even tell it's there. Maybe a helmet thing

You have the separate earpiece/mic or the one with the earpiece and the mic in one unit? What helmet?

The mic on a boom to the earpiece can be bulky in the helmet and a PITA, but the setup with both ears and mic just connected by wires (no boom for mic) is easily mounted inside the helmet behind the lining with the wires taped in place behind the cheek pads. Then just bring out the connection and plug into chatterbox.

Can the separate earpiece and mic later be used with a full car to pit system?

I have a big head and a big helmet, so maybe that's why I have some extra room :-) Anyway, the single earpiece/boom mic works ok with my setup, once helmet is installed, slide in the mic, it's not noticeable.

I would say if you plan to use this a LOT, then get a helmet with the comm system built in or use the wire-in setup surlynkid mentions, thats' the cleanest.

I am not sure. It is just a little jack like iPhone headphones. It is a standard jack. I don't have any pit people to talk to

This is what I prefer to the mic on the boom. Personal preference I guess. I always hate stuffing that ear piece up to my ear. Ear gets pushed in a funny position, balaclava gets pushed away, can't get sunglasses on the way I want them.

I thought that some photos might help. My helmet is a Simpson, and it has the indentations in the foam where the earpiece fits nicely.

I use this below. easy to use once you get the ear piece in the correct position inside the helmet.
