@Mooty - Thanks for pointing that out, I did not know SPG was automatically FIA approved, but makes sense.

Not sure if you've taken a look at our product line, but all of our seats are FIA approved and are 5pt harness compatible. Are you looking for something with head restraints or more street/track oriented.
Being that you're 6'3, we have had people have problems fitting into some of our seats based on if their height is more in their legs or more in their upper torso (because of the area in which the shoulder restraints would go through).

But below are two of our more popular seats with road racers:

MOMO Supercup ($629.95)

MOMO LESMO ONE ($849.95)

Yes, the recaros will give an error. You need to have the thorax airbag coded out and the weight sensor coded out. Anyone with a durametric or piwis can do it.
Actually the Enthusiast version of Durametric does not have coding capability, it has to be the Professional version.

Please consider the ramifications if you tamper with the federally approved air bag system in your car. If you have a 997.2 GT3 it came with a federally approved side air bag (thorax air bag) in the seat. If you go with an aftermarket seat you will have to disable part of the cars safety system so you don't get an air bag fault. If you get the Porsche GT2 sport buckets they have this seat side air bag and it's plug and play.

When I was looking at modding a 997 Carrera and getting aftermarket seats and disabling this part of the air bag safety system a very good attorney friend of mine along with my State Farm agent and underwriting said if I was in a crash on the street I could not be covered due to tampering with a federally approved and manufacture installed air bag safety system. My attorney friend and insurance agent both said my passengers lawyer would have a field day with me in court.

...so just get the Porsche GT2 Sport Bucket seats with the side air bag.

So, either get better friends or don't take passengers.

J/K, all good points to consider.

not sure about internal door structures/legal guidelines., but if the same as 996, install 996 door panels with airbags and enjoy use of any seat...?

This is on a 997 not 996...so there are differences. The 997.2 was DOT approved in the USA with thorax seat air bags.

Bringing this back up - given GT2 seats fold down are they truly safe for running 6point + HANS? If the latch fails in a crash bye bye usefulness of HANS and harnesses.

I have a Recaro SPG XL sitting in the garage, but they arent that great for daily driving.

Any dudes in SF with GT2 seats I could sit in with my helmet on?

On track you most likely won't have any bodily damage insurance for you or your passenger. However, if you crash with a passenger and the airbag is defeated that would most likely not be to your advantage in a court. Quick solution is don't take a passenger in your car.

In my 997.2S I used a Sparco Evo II mounted on a Planted base with side mounts and sliders. I had a set of Safety Solutions 7 points bolted to the base. Driving to the track I put the Sparco upside down with the back towards the dash in the passenger side. Snug but it fit. At the track remove the factory seat and install the Sparco. Maybe a half hour. Leaving is the reverse along with reprogramming the airbags.

You can do all of the above and still spend way less than you would for a set of used GT2 Sport Buckets.

I think general consensus is on track no insurance works

Off-track take your point.

I'm going with an all oem solution which is why I'm asking about track safety with the GT2 sports - the general rule of thumb is adjustable back seats are a no no for harnesses but given the seat came on caged club sports wondering if Porsche made them differently
