Yes, I connected with him the first day that the car listed... I offered him MSRP cash for the car, no dice. Again, to my earlier post, if you try to find those cars at what I would consider reasonable premium prices, hard to find. The mania has taken over. He quoted what the dealers are asking...I am still not convinced people are actually paying those prices, but maybe I am wrong. I am not sure what his reserve is set at, but its above the $156k MSRP. No thanks. Not for me anyways... if he gets it, more power to him. Car looks really sweet. To his credit he was polite and matter of fact about his pricing.

^^^^ That is a good example of a car I'd be interested in....
But even paying MSRP seems exaggerated IMO...
I'm really stupid...I went to see a few this spring and I remember I could've had a CPO grey with 3-4K miles for something like 120K...but in my mind I was thinking they'll sink even lower...well...duh...live and learn!

just because there is a craze, doesnt mean buying is the right answer... maybe the hype is temporary, maybe its not, but for some/many of us there is a point at which we arent willing to play... to me, finding a perfect low mileage car like this, its worth MSRP...these are the only types of cars that would be interesting to me beyond what I have...but at over MSRP, no way...

There is one $160k bid on the car, under Reserve... I am wondering if maybe it is Byers

But in the category of "you think the RS prices are doing nutty things", check this out

I don't see a car in that picture.....no wonder the price is up there.

I had some serious dumb luck when I bought the RS, i think I walked into the low of the market back in fall 2012. CPO car at 20 with 2500 miles, and every mod I would have done myself (rollbar, exhaust, belts, clearbra)

I don't think it was just luck... You were determined and knew what you wanted.
Good for you!
May I ask if you meant 120?

So how it possible that these friends sold at a loss given the hype over on the 991 GT3 forum? Am I missing something?

As to original OP poster's question, besides all the reasons that've been beaten to death on this forum you've got guys like Harris coming out saying their preferred track-day car is still 997.2 RS and a number of early 991 Cup drivers saying that they preferred the way the 997 Cup drove. It all just adds to the hype.

What I find somewhat amusing is folks complaining/passing on the best track-day car out there because it has a few track miles. You have to do something really stupid to kill the motors in these cars and a simple readout will tell if there's anything to worry about.

If I were looking to buy right now my target would be 15k-20k mile car with track time.

Quick Reply: Please please enlighten me!!! Why are the 2 RS prices at almost 200K?!
