997.2 to 997.1 GT3 NE Daily Driver upgrade
I just traded in my 997.2 C2 for a 2008 GT3 9 days ago. The C2 was my only car for the last 2 years in Western NY. I loved driving this car every day but after doing 6 track days in the last year I couldn't help but wonder what a GT3 would be like. I've been reading as much as I could about the GT3 (thank you for all your advice. I spent 90% of my time reading this forum) and thinking hard about how I'd use the car. Personally I came to the conclusion that I could never own a limited use vehicle and be able to fully enjoy it. I've tried that route in the past and discovered my propensity to polish more than drive. The only thing that works for me is to own one vehicle, forcing me to drive it. With my C2 I cringed when 1st driving in the rain, got nervous when parking in less than ideal spots, scared when in the 1st few snow storms. After a while those things stopped bothering me and I gained a greater appreciation for the car because I drove it so much more. It is an amazingly engineered machine that can handle the track as well as toting a bicycle or driving in 3 inches of snow. The GT3 is way more car than the C2 and I'm going through many of the same nervous self doubt on my decision to drive it daily but with my 4th snowy drive under my belt things I'm getting used to the much more sensitive brakes (PCCB's) and throttle. The wider 295 Sottozero's appear to have similar road traction in the snow as the 265's on the C2. Other than these few differences and the extra unwanted attention of the wing there don't seem to be any negatives to having this as my only car compared to the C2. Plus there are just so many positives of this upgrade that all you GT3 owners are so keenly aware of and have written about in other threads that encouraged me to make this leap!

Congrats on the new ride! Nice to see you use it all year round. The .2 c2s wheels look good and they clear the pccb.

Ha ha love that last pic! How's the front lip work as a plow? (I had to resort to one of these last year)
Actually, mine's put to bed for the winter. I admire you for doing what Walter Rohrl doesn't (uses a turbo for winter with all-wheel drive). You're skill should be stellar in no time!

J. - congrats on the beautiful new GT3!
When I first bought mine, I too was a little worried about driving the car as much as I wanted. I decided to say "f' it" and 17K miles later, I couldn't be happier. Still smile every time the garage opens. Not enjoying one of these cars as much as possible should be a crime.

J. Kid can you snap a quick photo of your window sticker where it states the 10 yr anti-corrosion warranty? I am debating buying a 981 Cayman vs. a GT3 and similar to you need to use it as a daily driver all year around. The main sticking point for me was the notion that a GT3 does not have the same undercoating and rust protection as other cars, and I was unwilling to risk such an investment with road salt if it was not properly protected. Thanks.

very romantic of you to drive the car everyday and in the winter.
I recall hearing stories of 356 owners who also did the same back in the 60s and 70s.
It is just a car. Enjoy it year round.
Just make sure to give it fresh water baths from time to time to remove the salt from all the suspension links etc...

The 996.2 GT3s have no rustproofing. It has been debated on the 997 GT3 board whether or not the 997.1 & 997.2 do as well...
To the OP - congrats on your new ride! GT3s are amazing.

If I find premature early corrosion starting after a few winters I'll address them professionally and likely stop the winter driving.
Right now I really don't want to drive anything else but the GT3!
