Default CAE vs Numeric

Read existing threads. Most have Numeric. Most like Numeric. CAE seems like a step more toward serious track use given advantageous positioning (near wheel) and centering spring.

For those with CAE- does the street version require modification of any parts if you also purchase this?

Best aftermarket shifter other than going sequential.

Mooty and Alex from Sharkwerks have driven my car with the CAE shifter and they can attest to the quality of the shifter.

Yes u will need to modify the console a bit using utility knife or Dremel and u can use a small torch to heat the cut ends to make smooth.

I have that carbon piece, but it is not worth it.... I just modified the stock trim piece from the shift boot.

Thanks!

So, no chance of going back to stock once modified? Or are the changes all internal so if you put the stock shifter back it would not be noticeable?

Numeric didn't solve my shifting issues, I'm hoping the bushings will. I haven't experienced the CAE , but if I had to do it again, I'm not sure I would have went to the trouble of the numeric shifter and cables.

I have 2 kinda chewed up center consoles coming that I would part with one if you decide to go the CAE route. To my understanding the modifications are not reversible...

Okay I really didn't want to step in this one but the install of my CAE shifter did not require any modification of the center console.

Everything about the console / tunnel is OEM.
I went with the "U-shaped" CF piece which IMO dresses it up a bit.
My opinion about the CAE shifter is known and not another word on this from me.

Nice, good to know, I have the CF on the way, but don't have the CF center console to go with it!

That cae set up really is trick. I love how close to the wheel it is too but really like mechanism is terrific.

I installed the shifter console myself...... Yes, u will have to modify 3 pieces of the shifter console trim in order to utilise the street CAE.... Even the instructions from CAE show you where to cut in order for it to fit with center console trim.

The carbon fiber trim to me is not that great...... The underside utilises hot glue with small pieces of Velcro in order to make it stick to console

I used carbon fiber trim as template and used stock plastic trim that is under the shift boot which utilises the the stock clips

CAE shifter with CAE cables are the business...... A definite mod to do.

If I didn't do this mod I would of stayed with 996 GT3 cup shifter and cables.....

But as Ranger said, this is pinnacle of all shifters

I still have a question on the modification to the console. I recognize it has to be done, but is it all internal? If I put the stock shifter back (with the stock boot) would the changes be visible?

You can retro the old shifter no problem after the cae mods
It is just a bit of trimming
