Default Good option for a full rollcage

Only posting b/c I believe this is a great alternative for a PCA approved full rollcage.
Have been talking to the nice people at Stable Energies about the Safety Device 996/997 bolt-in full rollcage.
Sells for $2K with free shipping by Stable Energies. A lot cheaper than the Porsche club cage which is no better.

How are such aftermarket safety devices tested? Is there a standard? Data?

Go clubsport. It is factory, looks the part and resale is good.

The a-pillar gusseting alone is worth it.

Op- ne idea with middle pic what that cage is for? I think it's got a lot going for it with dash bar and reinforced passengerside which negates a passenger being in there with no route to get out but driver side. Why not have a door bar on driverside- looks almost secured. Mike

I have seen this cage installed in a car and can tell you that the quality is not the same as the Porsche Motorsport product. It is a nice cage, just not Porsche quality of design and fit. Pretty sure it would still do its job when called upon.

I can also tell you the front section of the Porsche cage has significantly jumped in price in the last year. I checked on it by happenstance a week ago and it was 3x the price I paid this time last year! The full Porsche cage is now close to $10k to buy complete.

The Porsche cage was never made by Porsche. It was licensed out and sold by Porsche. The reason price went up by 3x this past summer was because Porsche got sued and doesn't want to sell these in USA anymore.
I have one of these in my RS. It is a total pain to get in with bar in front of dash and I cannot see passenger side mirror because bars are in the way.

The factory cage is superior in finish, material, weight and fitment. I've seen both.

That being said, the latest price increase for the 997 variants is outright stupid and typical of Porsche's parts price strategy.

I'm a fan, but the stock cage is not worth what they are asking for it right now.

I think one of the major points that may be overlooked is the style of attachment point that is used in the Safety Devices cage.

The cage bolts to a boxed in reinforcement that is welded to the longitudinals of the car, which are structural chassis points. This also allows the driver and passenger to have more available leg room and seat travel.

These are obviously more structurally sound mounting points compared to mounting to the floor pan.

These cages meet PCA, NASA, and SCCA spec. The cages are also finished in a durable satin black powder coat, which I think looks very nice.
