Sorry to hear. Hope it turns out cheaper than you guessed. Obviously after the fact, but I would highly suggest getting track insurance in the future. Relatively inexpensive and is for this exact situation.

Also, not sure if you are aware as well, but here in NC if you are even able to get to claim it on your STREET policy your insurance will incur you a 3 year premium policy penalty for your ENTIRE policy (I.e., all cars on your policy). I can tell you that I know 3k or more in damage is a 60% penalty.

At that level you'll probably come out ahead with having them pay for the costs and dealing with the rate increases. . At this level of repair you are also not entirely sure what other things they might find as they rip the car apart that could cause the estimate to go way up.
