The 997.1RS market is very strong and good examples are getting harder to find and pry from collectors hands.
The 996 has depreciated as the demand is just not the same as 997RS most likely due to production numbers and styling of the 997RS. This will not change in time, although the 996 will always have a market for those looking to budget the best performace for the money option.
The 997.1 non RS has also had decent demand as it is 997 styling and performance for good value.
997.2 being the last of the breed has shown strong resale.
Early PASM shocks in 997.1 were superior to 996 shocks although the updated valving on the 997.2 was the best all round road and track factory shock to date.

1996 993 RS sells for 245K :

http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/...itemid=1988386

The 993 Turbo S sells for similar...

I can only imagine the 997 RS 4.0 prices in 10-15 years...500K maybe...

As desirable as the 7.2 RS may seem, the real last purest porsche I say goes to the 6 RS.

The carbon hood, sticker crest, plaxi windows, non PSM, manual climat control, carbon trunk.

Despite the controversial styling, love it or hate it, I will say either the RS 4.0 or the 6 RS will be the most sort after race bread WATER COOLED Porsche.

One day, a 6 RS will be in my garage.

I would not make any future projections based on price escalation in the past couple years. We are living in a bubble that is continuing to be inflated by the Fed. It cannot last forever.

Anyway, back to the last 'pure' Porsches. Cannot leave out the Spyder and Cayman R, produced after the 997GT3 into 2012. Although not Mezger-powered, they have a 'purer' suspension than the electronic PASM in the 997GT3s, no DEM, etc. Especially ones without AC and radio - you have to go back 20 years to the RS America to find a similarly pure and basic US-market 911.

The body will always hold the 996GT3 and RS back in terms of price compared to 997.1RS and 997.2RS. No matter how rare it is.
All 3 cars came in Clubsport versions which is as hardcore as it gets. The traction control can be turned off in the 997 series therefore the definition of purest is questionable when singleing them out...

The 996GT3 is as close to simple as it gets in a water cooled GT3, however when compared to the 964RS and 993RS its purity also becomes questioned amongst the hardcore 911 crowd....

The 4.0L will be like the pricing of the 993GT2 and 993RS models today. Expensive.

I think the 997.1 RS is the last of the true viseral 911's with the best looks. ya the new cars are "faster" but they dont have the raw, "im going to hurt us if you dont pay attention when driving me hard"

I have driven all GT3's including the 996 GT3, 997 3.6, 997 3.8RS, 4.0RS hard and the best combination of looks, viceral feeling, rawness and looks is the 997.1RS

Also they made way less 997.1RS than 997.2RS's so i think that will play a role in value in 10+ years.... look at what a 73RS costs these days.

I agree the 997.1 RS is the best looking.

+1. Most of the hardcore guys won't consider any water cooled version to have purity over the air cooled cars.

....but I think we're trying to go way too far down the path, I understand the root of the argument when considering the '10 GT3 in the video.

When hybrid 992 RS comes along, 991 will be the "last purest" Porsche and when 99(4? - Porsche please learn to count!) all electric comes along 992 will be "last purest".

Looks like 409 997.1 GT3RS produced in the USA and 540 997.2 GT3RS produced (compliments of MJones) - so fairly close in terms of production numbers. Prefer the 997.2 - last of the Mezger engine development.
