It's structural steel in the carbon tub and doors so not likely it can be removed. According to AR it was necessary to pass or impact tests.

Safety equipment is always worth the extra weight.

I don't disagree but in this case the weight gain needed to be offset by a power increase to justify this as a performance car or a "junior supercar" as AR contends. I brought this up with the ROW buyers on a 4C forum to understand if they were concerned that their car wouldn't pass a test in the US that basically every other car in world can pass to some degree...crickets.... The 4c will likely come in north of 2500lbs wet in the US. With 237 horsepower form a 1.75L turbo four the performance of the US car won't be great and the extremely light fun to drive aspect that I loved in my Elise will be eroded. I ordered a C2S instead.

Still not feeling it, farting 4 cyl, so-so gear box and Italians experimenting..
Plus I'd have to start living of espresso to not at 10% to its curb weight and take 10" out of my upper legs.

I was musing today about adding the GT3 engine and a 6 speed manual with GT3 brakes to a Cayman.
BGB already put the C2S engine and brakes on one and Caymans are dipping into the 50's.

It could be a 2800lb 475hp car with a 6 speed manual.

Or ignore the ugly *** and build a Z51 with Z06 parts and get the 465lb torque V8 sound for less and maybe can get that fatty under 3100lbs with all the right stuff.

only alfa can take such promising ingredients and make them add up to less than they should.

as it stands, the only appealing thing of the car is the basic chassis balance, the construction, and those looks. The steering apparently has strange feel, which is borderline unbelievable since they made it unassisted. The engine lags, and only revs to 6500. of course refinement can't be expected to be amazing considering it's weight, but as a non-everyday proposition, the exige destroys it. it's too bad it's not sold here

looks so-so on performance and great on looks. The underpinnings mean there's a great car in there, with some nice suspension and a total engine build (2.0 litre, steel crank, titanium rods, slipper pistons, ported valved head, big turbo etc). Chuck 30k at it.

Unfortunately being Peters (Trackcar) twin means with out extensive surgery I will never fit! Will only suit dwarf's like Richard Hammond
