I agree.

I'd rather go for an early morning mountain drive than a cal speedway infield track day.

Ah bummer, you still thinking of doing Miller in Sept. BTW this event is the Roval adds a bit more fun to the track...

Just curious, why the aversion to Cal Speedway?

It's a fast track that isn't very technical and has a lot of walls that you can do some serious damage to the car.

Willow springs
Big track is FAST but learning you don't have to push it
Little track is low speed and fun
Both are easy to learn and good to learn on

Buttonwillow is overwhelming at first

Okay, so I am going to ask a similar question for San Jose? Any good tracks nearby? Same criteria.

Thunderhill. Hands down.

Sears & Laguna are very intimidating with the walls pretty close (especially Sears, the start/finish area is merely a concrete canyon). Sears is much more of a challenge. Laguna gets boring after the first time or two.

I think it depends on the track config in session. They have so many permutations. The BMW club (15 years ago) didn't run the bus stop. That cut down the complexity. Not to mention the challenge & thrill it posed by whistling thru Riverside at high speed.

Poc is at the little track - "streets of willow" - sept 7-8 i think. RL member Kormaster will be there, and i might go. Streets is a small track relatively speaking but pretty fun. I have been there several times and go a little burned out, but its great to learn on. Quite technical with many tight turns

Sign up for Streets of Willow with POC in Sept 7-8. People are great and friendly

You can drive your car at your pace and really get to know your car handling/grip level, braking ability, practice heal/toe/rev matching... I learned to be comfortable turning off SC/TC at this track. Im still a novice... trying to get my POC license. =)
