Default OT: Any Golf or Jetta Sportwagon TDI owners here

Guys trying to gather some info and reviews on either one of those cars, as I'm thinking about adding it to my household. Lately I find my wife 'stealing' my daily (Touareg TDI) more often than I like for her 'longer' hauls, and also every time she needs to take the dogs, or carry something. I drove the wagon once a while ago, but I wonder how is to live with in the long run. I know fuel economy is great and I have to say that feels good to fill up once every 2-3 weeks (Touareg).
Inputs are appreciated !

I know a guy with one. He likes his a lot. Has a couple great danes I believe, and a toddler. So I'm sure the space is nice. Seems to get really good mileage, and apparently has over 300 ft/lb torque. Not sure what the stock specs are, or if he is running software.

Fun, easy to live with, super cheap in MPG and no depreciation to speak of.
Perfect transportation and cool in my book.

Another alternative is a 328d, which offers similar mileage in a much nicer package (and price). Also available in a wagon.

That would be a good option for sure, but unfortunately I don't buy BMWs anymore. Had every single M car and also different ones, and also worked for the factory for a few years, completely disappointed with the brand.

Well, I owned (from new) a 2002 VW Golf TDi 5-speed. Put over 120K miles on it in about 4 to 5 years.

Great car. It had the smaller wheels/tires and the ride was very nice without being wallowing. Great around town and out on the highway. A real GT believe it or not. Could cover more ground than my Porsches because I could drive it a lot further before I had to fill up the tank.

The only complaint and the reason I sold it before its time was the consistently lousy VW service. I mean lousy, as in incompetent.

I had the timing belt replaced just at 80K miles -- the scheduled miles. The dealer reused the original motor mount bolts -- which I was told was ok but I found out later these were stretch bolts and of course not supposed to be reused -- and of course they snapped and the engine mounts came loose and the engine damn near fell out of the car.

I might mention consistently bad service at the dealer where I bought the car. Two dealers near where I moved to in CA. A dealer in NM. I just got tired of all damned incompetence glossed over with lies and sold the car.

But a darn fine car it was. Stupid VW.

buddy has a tdi wagon he's had for a few years. It's a good car, he likes it, a lot, 2 kids, dog, uses it for surf transport... it's a great transportation vehicle. I've ridden in it many times, and its nice, rides good. His has been reliable.

Inspirational? Not really. But I would take this over any of the hybrid options priced in this range right now.

Will make time in the GT car more special for sure.

Have you considered a Jetta TDi "Cup Edition"? Great commuter vehicle. Easy to live with and a little different from your garden variety Jetta. Ride quality is the same as the GLi as it has the same suspension and brakes.

That would be a nice addition, but the reason why I choose either the Wagon or Golf is the cargo ability, one being a wagon and the golf being a hatchback that can carry the dogs or anything 'big'

Too funny, than I would need a Cup to pair with it.

Default 2005 Jetta Tdi 5 speed

The only way to commute. Great air conditioning. 40-45mpg. Fun to drive and good practice for shifting and heel toe.
