Default Puff of Smoke on Startup?

Anyone else get this? Car has to have sat overnight, and be dead cold. Doesn't do it if parked for a few hours.

Mine does the same thing if I haven't started it for more than 8+ hours.

Could be valve seals that are cracked and causes oil to leak thru the seals

This has happened to me (randomly) a few times. I was worried until I heard the explanation- sometime the dry sump will leak some oil back into the engine if the car is parked at an incline. At startup that little bit of oil will burn causing the smoke.

Totally normal and if you google it you will get millions of results with new owners all in a panic lol. Its very embarrassing but they all do it- sorry I sound like a dodgy saleman!

Nothing to do with a slope, its all totally random my might do it every day or not a tall for a month, same journey, same parking bay/garage etc. Get used to your red faced excuses for when a friend/family member/passerby/colleague etc say 'do you know?' or 'is it ok?'

One of the quirks of the ole' Mezger. It's just politically incorrect in so many ways that PAG's got reasons to move on to DFI and a new block...

Part of the Porsche "charm". Don't worry it is included with the Porsche tax.

My Turbo has always done it randomly. Have not had the GT2 long enough to observe it yet but sure it does it too. Unlike most every other motor (V or inline), the h-opposed cannot drain residual oil back into the case. It is my belief that tiny amounts pool then smoke off at start up (Just a theory though). Regardless, like others have stated, its normal.

Add the smoke to the list of things the wife does not find charming about the GT3. List is getting long.

lolllll.. never gets old. wife refuses to be in the garage when I start the car. it gets pretty embarrassing when it happens in public, I always try to park the *** towards the wall if I'm parking for a while.
its one of the perks of owning a Gt3.

It's a quirk, not because of drainage but the way the pistons are designed. Our crankcase has these [twin] oil jets sprouting at the base of every piston. That pools oil around the bottomost piston ring at low revs. At operating temperature the rings are practically airtight; as the engine cools down a vaccum forms in some cylinders which sucks the oil up from the piston base via capillary action and into the uppermost ring--hence exposure to combustion at start up.

Like another poster said, tis one of the perks of having these Mezgers. All very neanderthal by modern automotive standards but that's what makes me giggle...

Bummer...I bet you'll miss her, because the 3 isn't going anywhere
