Default NT01's: when to get new ones?

Hi All,

On my first set of NT01's... Tread is gone, still have the tread depth holes and the wear bars in the grooves are now even with the rest of the tire.

As I drive to the track and back home on them I don't want to run them too far into the cords and not be able to make the 45mile drive home.. Should I:

1. Flip them on the wheel to get the most wear possible out of them (I do notice a bit of shoulder rounding mainly on the rears).

2. Replace them

3. Let them be...

I've read on a few other forums that the NT01's have much more life after the tread is worn off... I'd say I'm about 2 days (4-5 20 minute sessions/day) into the tires with only a ghost of a tread left. + the 90 miles round trip per event.

Just don't want to get to the track have half the day gone and see I've got no tire left!

Thanks

Jamie

Dude, you are nowhere near the end of this tire. Flip them for maximum life, but not yet, unless you've really scorched the outside. Run them until they cord, or as close as you can, since you have to drive home on them.

Wear down close to cord.
If down to wear bar and uneven wear noticeable; then flip.

I flip mine around 25 heat cycles. Got 50+ cycles on the last set they aren't near gone until they are a complet slick and the two grooves are also gone. I think I still got 8-10 cycles out of my last set after they were complete slicks. Both rears corded on heat cycle 53. Still drove home with cords showing but I'm only 40 miles from the track.

Tracks I run are fairly easy on tires.

I could kill you for living so close to Mid-O.

BTW - ground has been broken at the track in Bowling Green. Will be finished August, 2014. "Official" ground breaking on the 28th. Will be the closest track for me.

You can run NT01s until you cord them. They don't heat cycle out - and they seems to be best near the end, probably due to less tread squirm.

+1 depends on the tracks I run, but I flip them around 20-25 heat cycles/4-6 days.

I guess after the move I'm 47 miles from the track now. Need an extra 10 min to get there these days.

Hope that track fairs better than bluegrass did. It'll be nice to have something else in the Midwest to chase the pumpkin at!

When you say "flip" them, I presume you mean remount on the wheel so that the outside edge becomes the inside edge?

Just checking...

Thanks. I am at 6 days and 21 heat cycles on my first pair of NT-01s, and the tires look good with even wear. Just received my new set via UPS today, and off to the track tomorrow for a 3 day track weekend...

This thread has been timely!

Default Advice

Hey guys, I've got a question about my Nt-01's. So far I have 8 days on them and must have run over some debris. I'm no where near the end of their life but want to know if you think I should change this out? Here's a pic. As you can see its in the main tread block and is not overly deep. Do you think I can get through this season on them or should I replace it? If I do replace it should I do them both or can I get away with just 1?

I'm experiencing the same thing on my first set of NT01s. Three and a half track days. Pretty sure it is not from running over something as it is the front on one side and rear from the other side. Very interested to hear what others recommend. Thank you.
